At last week's NLNOG Day 2024 event I did a presentation called 'Your Digital Legacy', a topic that really deserves a bit more attention than it often gets. Many of us engineers run their own personal servers for storing their mail, websites, documents, passwords, etc, and we often share these services with friends and family. Also, we often are active in online communities, for example IRC or Discord, online gaming and open source projects. These two things can become a challenge for our relatives once we're not there anymore: they often don't know who to contact and how to deal with the technical parts. The goal of my talk was to address these things and make people think about how to help their relatives with this. I'm really happy with the feedback I got afterwards, it seems that this was an eye opener for quite some people. Curious?
