I am once again asking for your help. September is National Suicide Prevention Month. I know it's a dark topic but we need to talk about. In the USA alone, we lost around 50,000 people in 2023 and even more have attempted and even more than that suffer from mental health issues and suicidal ideation. There is a good chance that you are either directly or indirectly impacted by these facts. It may be you, a loved one, a coworker, a neighbor, etc. who is struggling. Maybe you or someone you know has lost someone. We need to openly talk about this subject. We need to bring it out of the darkness and into the light so that we can help everyone who is struggling. Life is precious and NO ONE should suffer alone. What's the ask? PLEASE DONATE and help me raise money for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention - San Francisco Bay Area chapter. The "Out of Darkness Walk" is on September 14 for San Francisco. You can donate via the link below. Even $5 can make a huge difference. If everyone who followed me donated $5 we'd have around $35k. https://lnkd.in/gEXPtUia If you are in the USA but do not live in San Francisco but still want to get involved, check out afsp.org to find your local chapter and see the ways you can help make a difference. If you are not in the USA, look into what your country or city offers. #nationalsuicidepreventionmonth #letssavelives #outofdarknesswalksf

September is Suicide Awareness Month and we are taking the opportunity to raise awareness around this important subject. Let's debunk some harmful myths about suicide: Myth: Asking someone if they’re suicidal will make them act on it. Fact: Evidence shows that asking someone about suicidal thoughts can actually help. It opens the door for them to share their feelings. Myth: People who talk about suicide are just seeking attention. Fact: Most people who talk about suicide are calling out for help and should be taken seriously. As a company, we will also be raising money for The Lighthouse Charity – the only charity devoted to the emotional, physical, financial well-being of our construction workforce and their families. Please help us support this much needed cause - https://bit.ly/3Zehb6e. If you need someone to speak to, reach out to a colleague, friend or get in touch with the Samaritans. You can find out how to get in touch by visiting their site - https://bit.ly/4dNiBZV. Suicide is preventable. Talking, supporting, and educating ourselves can save lives. Let's break the stigma and start the conversation. #MentalHealthMatters #SuicidePreventionMonth #Samaritans

Did you wake up today and feel like life is just not worth living? Well, I hope not. But just for a moment as you read that question, you might have glimpsed an insight into the dark world that many people suffering from mental health disorders can face on a daily basis. And unlike the physical health ups and downs that we all experience as a normal part of life, untreated mental health issues can spread like its inky blackness to all corners of a person's life for many years. There are many noble causes to champion, but it is the invisible and life long suffering that I have seen in good people with mental health issues that really concerns me, and especially young people in the complex world we have created for them to live in. I'd like to ask you to help me do something about it. This year is my fourth year leading a team of Port Melbourne legends in the Push Up Challenge. It's a simple thing (sort of). We each do one push up for every life lost to suicide last year over 24 days, and ask you to donate to the cause. Unfortunately that means each of us needs to do 3,249 push-ups, but we will get there! To donate go to my challenge page: https://lnkd.in/gpNeD8DP And of course, you will get a receipt to claim as your donation is tax deductible. My donations are going to Headspace. Even if you don't donate, thanks for reading this far and spending a moment focusing on mental health. Perhaps you know someone to ask RUOK.

🌟 Join Us in The Push-Up Challenge! 🌟 This June, The Clarke Murphy Team and I are taking on The Push-Up Challenge 💪 to complete 3,249* push-ups between June 5-28, 2024, raising funds and awareness for mental health through the incredible charity, Lifeline. We invite you to support our mission in two impactful ways: ▶ Sponsor Us: Make a tax-deductible donation to our fundraising page. Every dollar helps #pushforbetter mental health outcomes in Australia. ▶Join Us: Whether you're a friend, family member, or just enthusiastic about the cause, you can join our team! *If 3,249 push-ups sound daunting, don't worry. You can set your own goal, even half the target, or substitute push-ups with other exercises. Feel free to ask me any questions, and... a word of warning: start doing a few push-ups beforehand! Last year, I went in cold, and it was a shock to the system!. 💪 😖 Your participation and support can help save lives and promote mental well-being. 💪❤️ #ThePushUpChallenge #MentalHealthAwareness #LifelineAustralia #Fundraising #PushForBetter #ClarkeMurphyPrint #CMP #CMPforyouandme #DrupaPushUps?

How do we change the narrative on suicide? One way is to talk about it. Whispering about it is not the same as talking about it. We have to learn how better to support survivors of suicide and make sure adequate support is available for the people who need it the most. Suicide is the second-leading cause of death among teens and young adults. 75-80% of suicide deaths are men. It’s staggering statistic and we all can do better by checking in on our family members, our children, friends, co-workers and especially the men in your life. At times of crisis or loss, it’s even more important to sit with that person and let them know they are important to you. Today is International Survivors of Suicide Loss Day. Losing my Dad to suicide when I was 13 is a life long loss that is still unfolding. Educate yourself on the signs to be on the look out for and find ways to support each other. See the link in my profile if you’re interested in donating to my Movember campaign to raise funds for suicide prevention programs among men. #mentalhealth #suicideprevention
