Hear me out... Can we stop limiting opportunities to 18-25year olds. What happens post 25 ? I think there should be more internships/ opportunities for 30+ who want a career change or those who want to dip their toes into something new. Juuuuustttttt sayingggggg P.S - If anyone is hiring, slide into my DM's. London based, open to packing a bag and relocating at this point too
Instead of internships just hire the people and you know..... Train them. That's the issue. Corporations have shifted the responsibility of training to the workers. And on top of demanding schooling they demand all kinds of experience. While of course not offering better wages. Norway made it against the law to demand a degree and not pay a wage fitting of it. But in the USA we have places demanding master degrees and paying min wage to live in the most expensive cities in the country. Internships are even cheaper for them to demand.... Think about it. The same companies with massive layoffs are accepting interns. So they can't sustain a workforce but will train low wage workers to do what? Work a job that won't exist when they finish school?
I couldn't agree more!
10000% agree! I'm a 28yr old grad student who returned to school to transition out of government into marketing. Can't tell you how many times I've gotten excited over a potential internship/fellowship/mentorship, just to read further down and realize I'm too old lol. It really does create barriers for people like me who are trying to pivot
There should be paid apprenticeships to all ages. Full paid training for success. Having a lot of experience can backfire for many gigs as the company may think you’re too experienced, expensive, or will be bored when in fact many of us are open to discussing a rate that works for both parties and are more than happy to have a job and be part of a team.
Fair enough. I'm about to be 26. Graduated 3 years ago. Only have two internships of a few months each in my background, as well as 1.5 years in a company. Let's round it up to 2 years of experience. I'm considered as a junior, even if I already have good references. I'm too old for internships in case I'd like to change of sector within the video game industry, from localization to production. But I'm also too young for the companies to take a risk hiring my junior profile. I'm stuck between these two uncomfortable situations. It reminds me this meme:
I did an internship with the House of Representatives at the age of 34 just because I wanted to. It was an awesome experience and I learned a lot. Got paid peanuts but I did enjoy it.
I was literally going to make a post about this yesterday!!!! I’ve been rejected by jobs telling me I don’t have enough experience with 4 internships and cohorts AND A BUSINESS under my belt. so I try to look for fellowships or internships and they say they’re looking for fresh graduates to mold. like ITS A LOSE LOSE OUT HERE for us mid twenties
This is so true…In a way I feel robbed. I’m 31 and I graduated when we were all still wearing masks in public. Less than 15 people actually got an internship outside of our schools accelerator program. I think it’s kinda ageist to not allow people who missed their chance because of unusual circumstances…people change careers all the time…seniors apply to junior roles all the time! But imagine trying the same as someone new to the field who is over 25…I graduated in 2022 and my industry is still very full. I wish there were more opportunities for us because we aren’t all running on the same timeline. Give us a chance to prove ourselves.

1dInternships are already limited, most people between 18-25 already struggle to get one. Opening it up for people beyond that 25 just increases the struggle for everyone. 25 is the magical age, because at that point the majority is finished with university. People without experience should 100% have a higher chance then People who want something new
