Capturing moments of leadership in action: Year 12 BTEC Sport students embracing their roles as sports leaders. This isn’t just curriculum delivery; it’s about offering a holistic experience where students grow through volunteering and mentoring younger peers. Watching these students guide Year 1 learners in developing fundamental skills, like sending and receiving a ball, highlights the rewarding side of sports education. It’s incredible to see the mutual growth, confidence, and fulfillment they gain—not only through mastering theory but by applying it in real-life scenarios. Proud to lead a course that goes beyond textbooks and exams, fostering skills that stay with them far beyond school.

How do you define a great school? Which factor do you consider the most important as a parent, as an edupreneur, and as a concerned citizen? Is it a strong brand identity, or is it infrastructure, curriculum, staff, or overall learning environment? Or perhaps, as Lenka might put it, it is “everything at once”. In our School Leaders Summit (SLS) held recently, we encouraged our franchise partners to cast votes for the same. Have you ever gone to a sports game or match where one team seems to be very athletic and skilled at the sport while the other team struggles to compete? After a while as the score widens the team that is struggling to compete gives up and just goes through the motions. That is what happens to our youth competing in the ‘everybody goes to college’ education policy. They see some students having success but as hard as they try, they just cannot find success in the classroom. After awhile these students learn that the system is not set up for them and they mentally drop out of school. In the end when our youth give up on education they give up on themselves and our society.
