Be a part of the change in mental health care! 💪 Your support can help bring vital improvements to access and quality of services for all Vermonters. #APAAdvocacy #MentalHealthMatters
Earlier, I had the pleasure of participating in a virtual meeting with Representative Becca Balint's office, ahead of the summit. I met with Sarah Callander, Legislative Assistant, to discuss vital mental health advocacy issues. Representing Vermont and the Vermont Psychological Association as the Federal Advocacy Coordinator for the American Psychological Association, I highlighted the importance of: Maintaining flexibility in the delivery of telemental health services, which is crucial for ensuring ongoing access to mental health care for all Vermonters. Enabling independent practice for psychologists under Medicare, a move that will significantly enhance access to psychological services. Integrating mental and behavioral health specialists into team-based primary care, to support a comprehensive approach to patient care and well-being. It was a productive discussion with Ms. Callander, who shares a deep understanding of the challenges faced by our Vermont communities. I'm thankful for the opportunity to advocate for policies that will strengthen mental health services and improve care for Vermonters. #APAAdvocacy #MentalHealthMatters #VermontProud

Equity for BIPOC folkx and mental health involves dismantling systemic barriers and ensuring access to culturally competent care. This means recognizing and addressing the unique challenges and traumas faced by BIPOC communities while providing resources that respect and integrate their cultural contexts. Achieving equity requires ongoing advocacy, inclusive policies, and dedicated efforts to eliminate disparities, fostering environments where all individuals can thrive mentally and emotionally.

We've got to move away from "what we've always done" and move toward "what works" in behavioral health. That's where evidence-based practices come in. Check out this toolkit we authored for the National Council for Mental Wellbeing with practical guidance on how to implement them, and which ones are worth considering. P.S. - on a related note, don't sleep on practice-based evidence, right KC Wu, MPH?

This year, CTC hosted 43 "Conversations for Change", our version of professional development trainings, including the expansion of several new clinical sessions for clinicians and mental health providers that work with those impacted by child sexual abuse and trauma, some of which have been done in partner with Jenner Law, P.C.'s own Kathleen Kerner. When asked about the impacts of this partnership, Kathleen had this to say: "Partnering with Change the Conversation and Amie Myrick has been an immensely rewarding experience. The opportunity to contribute to the education of mental health professionals, ensuring they understand both the therapeutic and legal complexities of working with childhood sexual abuse survivors, is one that I deeply value. The work these providers do is vital, and I'm grateful to play a role in equipping them with the knowledge they need to recognize the unique challenges they may face. By helping them understand these specific issues, I support them in maintaining the high ethical and professional standards essential for delivering effective, compassionate care." We are incredibly thankful for the opportunity to educate our community with professional like Kathleen, and many of our other partnering agencies. If you are interested in attending a Conversation for Change, or curious about the trainings we can offer, information can be found here: https://lnkd.in/dypEV5CM

Great to see the Social Value Engine is being put to use by an NHS Trust for transforming its evalution of mental health services and programmes. This is a growing agenda that needs to be embraced more fully across the public sector. In particular, the Treasury and OBR have yet to appreciate the potential of rigorous return on investment and social value analysis for the public services.
We're excited to share a new case study featuring the inspiring work of Lincolnshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust. This piece explores their innovative approach to social value, and the positive impact it's having on their organisation. A big thank you to Mark Platts for lending his insights for the interview.
