Today, we had the privilege of attending the 8th Nigeria Family Planning Conference (NFPC) pre-conference activities. A recurring theme that resonated deeply was the importance of educating women on family planning. When women are informed and empowered, they can make informed decisions about their reproductive health, leading to better outcomes for themselves, their families, and communities. Let's continue to prioritize women's education and access to family planning resources. Together, we can create a brighter future for all! It's going to be blast this week. You have to join the conversation, visit www.nfpc2024.org to register. Nearly half of pregnancies in the US are unplanned. For women in #poverty the number is even higher, largely due to barriers to reproductive healthcare. We’ve partnered with Upstream USA to scale its contraceptive-focused training and education offerings to healthcare centers nationwide as a part of primary care. This work has the potential to serve 5 million women of reproductive age, making if and when to become pregnant a choice and improving downstream outcomes for women. https://lnkd.in/eCs3qKRh

As we approach International Women's Day, it's crucial that we equip our children with the knowledge they need to navigate their own reproductive health confidently. This is a proposed solution for young rural children to access reproductive health via an SMS-based method. with the aim of enrolling and engaging 500 rural children from Nigeria by the end of the year. It is designed to connect them, upon receipt of a single SMS emphasising a particular concern, to a network of licenced health care experts (with public health interest) It features videos and live chat consultation and counseling, monitoring and supporting. It's time to break the cycle and create a better tomorrow for our youth. Let's empower them to make choices that will lead to a brighter future. #ruralhealthcare #remotehealthcare #reproductivehealth #telehealth

Baseline Findings: Teen Mothers' Knowledge in Kicukiro District Before the intervention, less than 30% of teen mothers in Kicukiro district were aware of family planning methods. This significant gap underscored the urgent need for comprehensive sexual and reproductive health education. Through the implementation of the Active Family Support (AFS) model by Hope and Homes for Children RWANDA, and using our MEAL services, AQS documented these baseline findings and acted. 🌟 🚀 After participating in our sessions, above 94% of teen mothers reported gaining crucial knowledge on reproductive health, including family planning methods and making informed choices. #TeenMothers #Kicukiro #HealthEducation #FamilyPlanning #AQS #HHC #AFS #MEAL

In the attached diagram, my colleague Divya Bhardwaj has mapped the most meaningful government agency touchpoints for providing Sexual and Reproductive Health counseling at the village level. As seen herein, young people are best met in schools, through the Education Department, women of reproductive age are well served by the Health Department, but couples are better engaged through Village Governance structures and Livelihoods outreach programs. To bring any service to the people in a comprehensive way, one ends up having to work with multiple departments with slightly varying and overlapping mandates. This kind of thinking has been called 'convergence,' and it refers to the idea that a single governmental agencies cannot and should have only one function, but rather that the different kinds of community stakeholders it connects with should organize the kinds of programming and support it provides. Convergence, in other words, begins to look like a welfare services architecture which is driven by the community's needs rather than any abstract theory of departmental function. This is emerging as one of our key principles as we try to connect different kinds of systems to the people.

Despair and hope can and do co-exist. Heading home after joining a fascinating panel discussion on the state of women’s health in Afghanistan, with Virginia Haussegger AM and Maryam Zahid at a Civil Society Dialogue on Advancing Afghan Women’s Rights. Here are some headlines from MSI Reproductive Choices and MSI Asia Pacific's perspective. - The public health system is fragile and shrinking. - Restricting women’s rights only compounds this. - Women’s physical and mental health is deteriorating. - MSI’s work has become even more critical in these circumstances. - Demand for MSI’s services has more than doubled since 2021. - Today, MSI has 80,000 client visits a month. - Whatever women visit us for, they leave better off. - Despair and hope can and do co-exist.

The US Supreme Court’s decision to uphold access to mifepristone marks a significant victory for reproductive health rights. This reinforces the importance of ensuring safe and accessible reproductive health services. While we celebrate this progress, it's crucial to remember the ongoing needs of women globally, particularly in Africa, where access to essential reproductive health services remains limited. Let's continue advocating for comprehensive SRHR policies that support women's health and empowerment worldwide. Together, we can make a difference. #SRHR #ReproductiveRights #GlobalHealth

For decades, Caring For Colorado Foundation, Rose Community Foundation, and The Women's Foundation of Colorado have invested in improving health policies and access to comprehensive reproductive health services for people in Colorado. As foundations investing in reproductive health services, including abortion care, we strongly support Amendment 79, a ballot measure that protects both the right and access to abortion care in Colorado. Please read this article from Linda Reiner, Lindy Eichenbaum Lent, and me about the fundamental link between reproductive freedoms, economic security, and community well-being: https://lnkd.in/gJ8cb2pd
