MHR is delighted to have been in attendance at the National Tuberculosis Conference 2024 themed "Public-Private Partnership and Integrated Service Delivery: Panacea to End TB in Nigeria." The conference provided an invaluable platform for stakeholders to deliberate on critical issues in TB control, emphasizing the importance of intersectoral and institutional collaboration in ending TB in Nigeria. Attendees included representatives from government MDAs, parliamentarians, professional associations, development partners, academia, private sector organizations, CSOs, TB/HIV-affected communities, and many more. A standout moment was the commissioning of TB testing equipment by the First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Remi Tinubu, funded through her remarkable 1-billion-Naira donation to address gaps in TB diagnosis and response. Speakers highlighted Nigeria’s significant progress in TB case-finding and treatment while addressing ongoing challenges such as funding gaps, stigma, low awareness, and resource mobilization. The conference echoed a strong call to action for stakeholders to innovate and collaborate to achieve the goal of ending TB in Nigeria. MHR remains committed to contributing to this shared vision by fostering partnerships and supporting initiatives that drive impactful change in TB control and public health. #TBConference #GEF #TB #HIV #AccessToHealthcare

The 8th Nigeria Family Planning Conference has officially begun, bringing together experts, stakeholders, and passionate attendees to discuss the theme: "Sustaining Commitments within the Nigerian Health Sector for Family Planning." Achieving the FP2030 goals will require collective effort, accountability, and a stronger focus on community-led approaches. A crucial question emerged during today’s conversations: Can Nigeria meet its commitments to family planning by 2030? While progress has been made, the consensus is that we are not there yet. This calls for action. We must strengthen partnerships, invest in innovative solutions, and ensure no one is left behind in accessing sexual and reproductive health services. Together, we can build momentum toward a healthier and more equitable future for all Nigerians. Let’s keep the conversation going—what are your thoughts on how we can meet these goals? #NFPC24 #FP2030 #NigeriaFamilyPlanningConference #HealthForAll #MHRInitiative

"Anything for us without us is not for us." - Nigerian Youths We are live at the Youth Pre-Conference for the 8th Nigeria Family Planning Conference 2024, and we reflected on Monica Carrigan’s words: "70% of women in the US use contraception freely, while Nigeria is still at 15%." Key issues raised in the event include: - Why is emergency contraception use higher in Ghana than Nigeria? - How can rural communities access digital family planning resources despite economic barriers? - Can we address the side effects of contraceptives with better information or options? - Why are more young people opting for withdrawal methods over condoms? - How can we challenge cultural pressures that push young brides into early motherhood? The future of family planning in Nigeria depends on tackling these barriers together. What do you think? Let’s discuss. #LetsConsolidateTheGame! #NFPYouthPreconference2024 #NFPC2024 #FamilyPlanning

A recurring theme that resonated deeply was the importance of educating women on family planning. When women are informed and empowered, they can make informed decisions about their reproductive health, leading to better outcomes for themselves, their families, and communities. Let's continue to prioritize women's education and access to family planning resources. Together, we can create a brighter future for all! It's going to be blast this week. In a small clinic in Lagos, Abigail waits nervously, holding her hospital card. She dreads walking into the separate HIV clinic because she knew that once she walks in, everyone would know why she’s there. For many women and girls living with HIV, this lack of privacy makes seeking care even harder. When HIV services are integrated into general clinics, it protects confidentiality and encourages more people to get the care they need without fear of stigma. This World AIDS Day, let’s stand for dignity and equal access to healthcare. Together, we can break the stigma! #EndTheStigma #WorldAIDSDay #GEF

"Is it a few slaps and punches that you are calling Violence? This was the question Aniekan asked when she was told that she was a victim of Intimate Partner Violence #IPV where she went to treat some serious injuries from a terrible beating her partner gave her. She pleaded that her relationship was all that held her together as a person with HIV. "Do you know how long I stayed single before finding someone to love me? Loneliness made me depressed. Now, I don't need to think of how to tell a man that I am HIV positive and watch him run away from me. Let me just manage the one I have abeg. A bird in hand is more valuable than 10 in the sky" It is easy to judge Aniekan and wonder why some women stay with abusive partners, but today, the 2nd day of #16DaysOfActivism, we remember how she refused further counseling and ran back to a partner who threatened to break her head one day. We remember that 1 out of every 3 women in Nigeria experience physical or sexual violence by the age of 15. We remember how much harder it is for women and girls who live with the stigma attached to #HIV and #Tuberculosis, and we just want to #OrangeTheWorld #GEF #EndViolenceAgainstWomen #GBV #SGBV #Nigeria
