Anxiety in the workplace is a silent killer that spares no one, affecting even top performers. It has many adverse effects: Burnout, loss of interest at work, and deteriorating mental- and physical health (to name a few). The answer? In part, creating psychologically safe environments. Leaders play a crucial role in creating these environments where people feel psychologically safe to express themselves — a key requirement for coping with workplace stress. As a leader, it's your job to create that environment. So, how can leaders do this? 💬 Foster Open Communication: Create a judgment-free space for sharing — most people will keep quite instead of risking judgement. 📖 Normalise Fear and Failure: Share stories of overcoming challenges — nobody gets everything right on the first try. 🧘 Invest in Mindfulness: Introduce practical ways to manage stress — most people don't know the power of a breathing exercise. 🎓 Provide Training: Offer workshops on resilience and stress management — provide people with the tools required to deal with the problem. 🏆 Recognise Achievements: Celebrate successes to build confidence — high performance environments often focus on areas of improvement, don't neglect recognition. 🌟 Lead by Example: Show vulnerability to normalise these feelings — people do what their leaders do, so be the change you want to see. By addressing anxiety, we can create a supportive work environment that enhances well-being, boosts morale, and drives performance. Read our partner at Singular Group - Africa, Anneline Sonpal's take on how to deal with the issue we can't ignore. #Leadership #MentalHealth #TeamPerformance #WorkplaceWellbeing https://lnkd.in/d829uFw8

Yes, there will be numerous posts on the recent case of workload demise, with leaders offering advice on maintaining physical and mental health. It's no surprise that such posts receive likes and comments like "very well said." Why weren't the right measures taken initially when work pressure in certain areas was known? It's always the employees on the ground who suffer, while those giving advice remain unharmed. Are they endowed with some special, god-given strength? #Leaders, instead of just giving advice and organizing yoga and meditation sessions, understand the value of life and focus on reducing such issues. Short-term gains often lead to long-term losses. Remember, your employees are your real wealth, not the hefty packages. #Leaders

Can #empathy drive significant business results? The answer is simple – yes! –, and the reason why empathy is necessary is that not only it is positive for #people, but it is relevant for everything, including #innovation and #retention. I genuinely think leaders must get empathy right; it has to be at the top of the list of skills needed to engage people, make them happy so that they can perform at their best. Nobody needs more stress. Our mental health has to be preserved, and when times are tough and we struggle with burnout, empathy is the antidote to generate significant constructive effects. According to a study by Lund University (link in the comment below), empathy seems to be inborn, which doesn’t necessarily mean that people cannot feel for their friends and teammates when they experience threats. Every single research on empathy lead to stating that it is a major part of the human conditions. Leaders should always consider someone else’s thoughts through cognitive empathy; make use of emotional empathy and express their own concerns for employees to response to. I think we all can improve our empathy towards our Team and our colleagues but it requires time and practice: it’s mostly a matter of understanding other people’s struggles and offering to help, support and coach. Results – not just business results – will ensue!
