Why Don’t We Trust Ourselves as Much as We Trust a Pilot? Over the weekend, my mom shared a thought-provoking video that got me reflecting deeply. When we board a flight, we know the airline, our seat preference, and whether or not we’ll eat during the flight. We trust that our luggage will arrive, and we settle in with or without a neck pillow, ready for the journey—even with occasional turbulence. But here’s the thing—we don’t know the pilot personally. We don’t know their experience, and we never even see them. Yet, when we hear the familiar, “Hello, this is your captain speaking,” we believe without hesitation that we will safely reach our destination. We relax and enjoy the journey. No questions. No doubts. Just trust. Isn’t it ironic, then, that in our own lives, we rarely offer ourselves the same level of trust? We are the pilots of our lives, yet we second-guess our own journey. Why don’t we trust that we’ll reach our destinations with the same faith we have in an unseen pilot flying us through the clouds?
