Nostalgia… Memories linger; it seems like yesterday, Lessons learned, promises made— Both about studies and life beyond. Exams cleared, some on re-attempts, The bustle in the classroom on submission days, Not just for end-of-semester assignments, But for completing lab workbooks each week. Begging the class rep to get extensions approved For vivas, midterms, and even final exams. The last-minute teaching spells from classmates, The buzz of voices, the nervousness on faces, Just before the final exam, Right in front of the department door. Competing among sections about which was better, Gossiping about each other—and the teachers too. Hustling for sessional marks, Finding ways to secure full marks before the exam, Frustrated teachers threatening consequences— Never did we take them seriously. The presentations we gave in class, The joy of spirited arguments, Presenting our philosophies, Discussing ideologies, New topics and ideas emerging, Moments spent in unknowing bliss. As I look back today, To my time at NED, I can’t help but feel blessed To have been a part of this university. I never wanted to choose electronics, But this path was chosen for me, And it has undoubtedly brought me To where I stand today, Proudly saying, “I am an Electronic Engineer From NEDUET.” P.S: the memories awoke the poet in me 🙈 #electronic #electronicsengineer #ned #neduet #phd #phdstudent

My #InsuranceStory: I went to college for Criminal Justice and Arabic. Super insurancey right?!?! WRONG! I worked in various #jobs in Probation and Parole, Corrections as well as a social worker after I graduated. They were all jobs to me. I went overseas and became a defense contractor. I was responsible for going off base and surveying battle damaged vehicles and bringing them back to base for retrograde or disposing of them. Essentially material damage adjusting or field auto appraising of multi-million dollar vehicles. I was getting ready to come home and end my second contract and I put an application at Erie Insurance Group. Why? Advice from my Father: "If you're going to come back to your hometown, you might as well work at the best company in your hometown while you figure out what you want to do next." Little did I know what would come next is 11 great years with the organization, countless friendships and partnerships. Insurance was meant to be a stepping stone to something else. Supposed to be on a LinkedIn break but felt compelled to write about this... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I'm convinced that each and every one of us experienced childhood trauma. Trauma is another word for hurt. And we've deepened its power by carrying it with us our entire life. Things such as reward and punishment, being constantly measured against educational and health standards, cultural standards, biases, handed-down traditions and ways of belief... all of these are a form of psychological trauma - I would call, psychological suicide. Play nurtures our natural state of being whether it is playing a musical instrument, playing outside, playing with words, playing with friends, etc.... We are gradually conditioned out of this state and told it's childish and yet, it's what we naturally do when we are free. The good news is that you can see the illusion of how the ego-self has developed in our psyche. How it plays into our lives daily causing tiredness and fatigue, stress, anxiety. If you do, you will also see that it can be put aside so that it doesn't interrupt the 'now', which is where qualities of joy, play, and creativity blossom. We are really awesome people - we just forget sometimes. In my up-coming book on the "HEALING POWER OF SILENCE", I'll show you how to watch seven? patterns of the mind that takes away your natural ability to shine in the world. I'll guide you through conversations/dialogues with yourself to deepen the understanding, and show you how the relinquishing the brain of the burden of an ego-self has healed financial, physical, and emotional trauma in my own life. Even more true when doing a startup where the expectations often are that you should work 60-80 hours a week. It is so hard, but so important to keep what really matters in the world top of mind always. Your health, your family and nature. And the only reason health goes first is because it's your biggest responsibility towards your family. Joy, play, nature and family are all part of startup success. And like health, a loving family and being active in nature can be used as enablers to build a really good business for the long run. And let's never forget how important it is to recognize the true values in life when we are building our products. We make a gazillion micro decisions every day that shapes our products. https://lnkd.in/geVgq5pi #InsuranceStory: I went to school for Business Administration having no clue what career I wanted to pursue. One day while in the library at SUNY Oswego (which didn't happen very often! lol), I decided to look at a book that outlined different careers you could pursue with a 4-year Business Administration Degree. I came across "Insurance Underwriter" which sounded interesting. It was at that moment I decided I wanted to try and get a "leg up" by gaining some insurance experience through an internship. Not knowing the difference between an insurance carrier or agency, I decided to open the phonebook yellow pages (an actual printed book that listed all businesses by category from A-Z, lol) and solicit each insurance business asking if they'd be willing to hire a college intern for the summer. Low and behold, I received a call back from a local prominent independent agency who was willing to bring me in. I spent the summer processing personal lines policies and backing up our claims department by taking claims calls. I continued to work at the agency throughout my senior year of college and during my spring semester, I attended thirteen 8-hour Saturdays of insurance licensing classes. By the time I graduated college, I was a licensed Property Casualty Insurance Broker. I was hired by this agency as a personal-lines insurance broker after graduation, and that is how I began my insurance career! That was 30 years ago and since that time I have held various insurance roles on both the agency and carrier side of the insurance business. I have worked in personal, commercial, life, financial services and surety lines of business. Almost two years ago, I had the opportunity to join Erie Insurance Group as a Senior District Sales Manager in Central New York. I quickly learned what an amazing culture Erie exhibits and I'm SO PROUD to work for such a tremendous organization and the amazing agents that represent us!! Have you ever considered #insurance?
