ACTION ALERT: Urge Congress to Reauthorize the Older Americans Act The Older Americans Act (OAA) is a critical piece of legislation that supports essential services for older adults, including home-delivered meals, caregiver support, transportation, and health promotion. These programs enable seniors to live with dignity and independence while easing the strain on healthcare systems and long-term care facilities. With the OAA up for reauthorization, we need your help to ensure our elected officials understand how vital these programs are to our community and across the country. Michigan's growing aging population relies on these programs to age in place, maintain their health, and stay connected to their communities. Reauthorizing the OAA ensures continued federal investment in these services and demonstrates our commitment to our seniors. Let’s make sure our voices are heard in Washington! Together, we can make a difference for older Americans in Michigan and beyond. MHHA has made it easy to send a letter to your senator and representative. Simply click below and send. A letter is already written for you! It should take less than two minutes. https://lnkd.in/ewrYQ2AD

Big change starts with local action. Alongside the National Co-production Advisory Group, we partnered with One Halton to reimagine how care and support works in Halton. The result? Halton’s first ever Co-production Charter, a blueprint for putting people with lived experience at the heart of the decisions that shape their lives. Through interactive workshops, we brought together local people, advocacy groups, practitioners, and leaders. Together, we explored what co-production means in practice, from shared values to practical tools for making a real difference. And this is just the beginning. Halton is embracing this approach, with plans to embed co-production deeply across health and social care. Be inspired by Halton’s journey https://bit.ly/3WIKpav

The cost of dementia used to be covered by Medicare, but now it's written out of many Medicare or long-term care plans because it's becoming increasingly expensive to care for those with dementia or Alzheimer's. Some policies also have limited benefits, which may cause problems later in life. Make sure you have a strategy in place that covers all future possibilities, so you aren't left without the coverage you thought you'd have. Listen to this episode now with Teepa Snow, MS, OTR/L, FAOTA
Is the plan enough?

Communication, advocacy, and even history-taking are all behaviors engrained in the EMS provider. In fact, we can all think of an educator, preceptor, or partner who helped teach and role-model these skills. Because these behaviors reflect our training, they are also open to bias based on our different lived experiences. Join us this month for the Prehospital Care Research Forum education webinar as we review this scoping review on using simulation to teach behavioral skills related to diversity, equity, and inclusion: https://ow.ly/Kkve50QTHNb

🌀 At Peek Counsel, we believe in the power of interdisciplinary collaboration to imagine a more equitable and sustainable future. By drawing knowledge from diverse sectors, we challenge ourselves to create innovative solutions that reflect the interconnectedness of all systems. Nature provides the ultimate blueprint on equal and circular systems, particularly the cycles of life and death. 💀 In the fall of 2024, our founder, Alexandra Peek, deepened her commitment to holistic approaches by training with Alua Arthur to become a certified death doula. This role is focused on providing emotional, physical, spiritual, and practical support to individuals nearing the end of life and their families. ⚰️ Interestingly, there are striking parallels between society's discomfort with death and the way we approach the climate crisis. Both reflect an avoidance of inevitable processes that are vital for renewal and transformation. In our latest article, we explore how this fear of death may contribute to unsustainable practices that harm our environment, ecosystems, and our own well-being. ✨ Join us in this reflection and discover how embracing cycles of life and death can inspire solutions for a more sustainable world. #PeekInsights #Consulting #Sustainability #Death #EndofLife #Nature https://lnkd.in/erS7u8RX
