🔷Joining a growing list of non-profit, tax-exempt health systems that are 'outsourcing' difficult to manage function, Ascension announced it is moving all it's hospitalist functions to SCP healthcare (a PE backed firm that specializes in hospital-based physician practices). 🔷To be sure, Hospitalist physician roles are quite challenging to staff for many healthcare systems. 🔷However, when we consider the implications of going to a company backed by PE, there is little (to no) possibility the SCP is less expensive and/or more efficient than staffing the function by Ascension. 🔷The devil is in the details however...contractual relationships between speciality physician staffing firms and hospital systems leave very little financial risk for the speciality staffing firm. Any financial 'loss' is covered either through contractual guarantees or supplemental billing opportunities (much of that however, is more difficult due to the "No Surprises Act". https://lnkd.in/gnJGuTGc

‘As registered nurses, we’ve seen firsthand the life changing impacts that organ and tissue donation can have,’ says Jen (pictured far right) – former paediatric cardiac and renal transplant nurse and senior director in our preventive and population health policy team. Jen was joined by her colleague Danielle (pictured far left) – emergency nurse and assistant director in our population health policy team. ‘At any given time, 1,800 Australians are waiting for a life-saving organ transplant, yet only 27% of eligible Canberrans are registered on the Australian Organ Doner Register,’ says Danielle. ‘This week is a great reminder to consider registering. It takes less than a minute on the DonateLife website or 3 taps on the Express Plus Medicare app. After registering it is equally important to have a conversation and express your wishes with loved ones.’ As part of DonateLife Week, Danielle and Jen alongside, clinical staff, officers from Australian Federal Police and members from the Australian Organ and Tissue Authority attended a morning tea hosted by the DonateLife team at Canberra Health Services. The meeting brought together key individuals and teams from across the ACT health system to hear from both recipient patients and donor families about the impact of organ and tissue donation and the role we all play as advocates in this space. Visit https://lnkd.in/gAwz4M8i to register as an organ donor and start the conversation with your loved ones about your life giving wishes 🩷 📸 Danielle (far left) and Jen (far right) with the DonateLife team Nadia, Narelle and Dani

#Physician Associate Profession is under threat# The Physician Associate profession is under threat due to recent guidance from the RCGP, resulting in an unprecedented wave of unfair dismissals and job instability across the UK. Despite the guidance document having a poor evidence base, and not being legally binding - some employers have been misled to implement this and breach their employees contracts. There is a deliberate assault against our profession. It’s time to take decisive action to defend all of our colleagues, prevent further harm, and hold those responsible accountable. UMAPs is moving forward with a legal challenge to address the damage caused and safeguard the profession’s future. We urgently need your support to raise between £30,000 and £100,000 to fund this action. Every contribution will strengthen our stand and protect thousands of careers, and ultimately the future workforce of the NHS. You can read the full statement and donate here: https://lnkd.in/dS6H_Fy8

Could Clinical Homecare be the NHS’s secret weapon? Currently, 31 million people in the UK are estimated to be living with at least one long-term health condition and NHS waiting lists are experiencing immense backlogs. So, what's the solution? Clinical homecare is the provision, storage, and distribution of specialist medicines to support these conditions and take the pressure away from patients and the NHS. HealthNet Homecare works closely with clinical and homecare teams to ensure that medicine and care are delivered safely, following industry standards and to patients' prescriptions and care plans. Our Deputy Chief Executive, Chris Carver, has discussed with the National Clinical Homecare Association - (NCHA) how homecare services could be the solution to the current NHS strain.
