From #Nurse to #Researcher to #Founder - grateful to Midlands Business Journal for letting me share my journey's personal side. The question about physical and mental health management really resonated. With three kids under 6, it's a daily adventure in adaptation. Here's what I've learned: There's a crucial difference between balance and equipoise. Balance suggests equal distribution - a nearly impossible standard. Equipoise, however, is about consciously managing opposing forces to find stability. It's dynamic, not static. As a #workingmom, I've found that true balance might be unrealistic, especially with little ones. Instead, I strive for equipoise - that sweet spot where different priorities find their rhythm, even if not equally weighted. In this season of life, excellence lives in the ordinary moments. Each day feels like a sprint, but it's our daily rituals and disciplines that help maintain that delicate equipoise. That's what keeps our family thriving. Yesterday, I dropped my youngest at daycare for the first time. The emotions were raw and real. Yet my work fills me with purpose and drives me forward. Here's to another year of purposeful pursuit toward our shared vision. To finding equipoise across work, personal growth, and family life - not perfect balance, but meaningful harmony. #WorkingMoms #WomenInBusiness #WorkLifeEquipoise #MomLife #WomenInSTEM #HealthcareTech #WomenInHealthcare #Leadership #StartupLife #FemaleFounders #HealthTech #Entrepreneurship #WomenWhoLead #MomsInBusiness #WorkingParents #HealthcareInnovation

I never expected to become a caregiver, but it has been life changing. Honestly, I believe I'm better for it. But, it works best with community. I'm thankful #Birmingham has organizations like Prismm Technologies and Moxi to support us and those for whom we care. #caregiving Here is a brief story about how caregiving has helped me in my leadership journey: https://lnkd.in/gNi87NGz
We had a great time at the Caregiving Summit today, presented by Prismm, discussing the challenges and opportunities around solutions for the sandwich generation who's caring up and down. Founder Cori Fain-Forrest said "Yes, motherhood was going to change my world, but I didn't expect a waitlist to change my world...the systems aren't designed for us, it's not you, it's just hard..." about her inspiration to build Moxi. Thanks to fellow panelists Ed Fields and Sarah McMillan for an engaging conversation on how the City of Birmingham is creating innovative solutions for its residents, and to Martha Underwood for hosting this event!
