Many things cannot be done without breaking laws, harming humans, or disrupting society. I came across that brilliant statement in the article about superhuman AI by Dario Amodei (https://lnkd.in/e2uuWfkJ). The key point here is that AI's ability to act should be restricted by laws, ethical rules, and similar frameworks. But what if a superhuman (!) AI begins a debate in which it convinces its human supervisors to lift these limitations? AI the tempter, be like.

The #AIAct is the first-ever legal framework on #AI, which addresses the risks of AI and positions Europe to play a leading role globally. The AI Act aims to provide AI developers and deployers with clear requirements and obligations regarding specific uses of AI. At the same time, the regulation seeks to reduce administrative and financial burdens for business, in particular small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). https://lnkd.in/ehhaxR9

"What few understand is that the main reason why open-source is lagging behind closed-source in some AI domains (ex: video or LLMs) is because you can't hide with open-source and it forces you to take more ethical decisions that can sometimes be detrimental to performance. It's much more sustainable and healthy though IMO." Long-term, open-source = safer, more ethical AI! Clement Delangue #Quote #AI https://lnkd.in/eCxiEES8

The EU's AI Act is designed to ensure the appropriate use of AI that respects our fundamental rights and safety. The Act comes into force on the 1st of August 2024. In this video we look at AI practices that are prohibited under Article 5 of the AI Act. These include manipulative or deceptive AI systems, which use subliminal techniques to manipulate behaviour, such as AI using hidden stimuli to influence consumer choices. The EU Parliament recently passed the AI Act, which is expected to lead the charge in regulating AI use - and abuse - in everyday life, by applying rules to AI products based on their "risk" to society. I'm very curious to see the real-world impact of this regulation on the advancement and adoption of AI tools and I sincerely hope that it achieves the intent of promoting the development of discerning, "human-centric" AI applications that support rather than undermine human life. #AI #AIrisks #AIregulation https://lnkd.in/eHV8RVGj

In a recent article in Observer, L&A partner Craig Smith weighed in on the patchwork of regulations related to #artificialintelligence (#AI) currently in place or being considered in the U.S. 🔗 bit.ly/3U414EN In the absence of federal legislation, individual states are proposing their own regulations to deal with AI. The risk with this approach is that different, potentially inconsistent, obligations on AI development and use could impede progress in the field and complicate implementation of the technology. #Legislation #SB1047 #CaliforniaLaw #IPLaw #LALaw #BetterIPBetterWorld

This cartoon gives insight into one of the issues the world is currently having with respect to Artificial Intelligence and Intellectual Property. For instance, in the cartoon, the book was written by an AI bot called LITBOT-500 and a novel prizewinner It becomes quite troublesome when there seems to be a growing discourse in determining the fine line between sole human originality and collaboration between AI and human creatives. There are also some ethical issues—mostly sentimental-based—about a possible reduction in original human creatives, raw talents exceeding or matching the standard of literature or writings done in the past times among many others. While the cartoon itself was in relation to the trend during the period of AI breakout about the possibility of AI taken over—which is pretty funny😂—it still allows a little bit of reflection as much as IP is concerned What do you think? #IPRemarks #TechLawRemarks
