For #techtuesday we have global smartphone shipments and how trends are changing across the globe. In FY’23, the total amount of smartphone shipments reached 1.17 billion units worldwide. Apple held a market share of 20.1 percent of the global market whereas Google’s Android held a respectable market share of 70 percent. The global picture of smartphones sales becomes more interesting when one looks at the most shipped phones where Apple reigned supreme last year. Their iPhone 14 Pro Max according to various sources shipped more than 30 million units making it the most shipped phone of the year. And the list of top 10 most shipped phones of 2023 comprises of 7 iPhone models. This could be because of a multitude of reasons, Apples strong hold in emerging markets like India and the global South or because of the fact that iPhones hold a strong value in the second-hand market, to name a few. What doesn’t surprise me at all is Samsung’s A series being the other 3 most shipped phones, not even their flagship offerings could make it to the list. With more and more companies trying to push customers away from the smartphone with AI handhelds or spacial computing headsets, smartphone global shipments paint a different picture. What are your thoughts about smartphone sales and the good ol’ Android vs iOS debate. Which side are you on? Source- Canalys, Statista & Counterpoint Research
