The Government has announced today that the International Visitor Conservation and Tourism Levy (IVL) will be raised from $35 to $100, effective from 1 October. The Government has taken the view that increasing the IVL means Aotearoa New Zealand can continue to grow international tourism to support economic growth while ensuring international visitors contribute to high-value conservation areas and projects, such as supporting biodiversity in national parks and other highly visited areas and improving visitor experiences on public conservation land, but has not detailed specific investments for the increased funds. Based on member feedback, Hospitality New Zealand’s submission on the IVL supported an increase to between $50 and $70. However, any increase was predicated on the funds being invested well for the benefit of the industry. Steve Armitage, Chief Executive of Hospitality NZ says, "It's disappointing that despite an increase, there is very little detail or proposals as to how these increased funds can be invested strategically to support tourism's growth. We need clarity around what the fund will be invested into and how the outcomes relate to government, regional and industry priorities. Given the additional costs to visitors, their expectations will be significant, and we invite the government to work with industry on a plan for how the money is spent to improve the visitor experience and solve problems. "Furthermore, the timing of implementation ahead of a much needed summer period to bolster balance sheets is far from ideal. Our preference is the introduction of the increased fee be delayed until after the summer period." https://lnkd.in/gPt9Ut38

The paradigm shift by the new CS ministry of Tourism and Wildlife is quite commendable. Kenya's traditional approaches to tourism development have failed to unlock thr immense economic potential in the sector. We have been obsessed with Sun and Sand ,and the Big Five as the main pull factors for international tourists. Focus on the two products means that the product offering is very limited. Many niche products such as cultural tourism , sports tourism, gritourism, adventure tourism and ecotourism among others have been neglected. Further more, our marketing has stuck to the traditional source markets of United States, Europe and the United Kingdom. Emerging markets including China. Eastern Europe ,Asia and Africa do not get adequate attention. Worse still, the domestic tourism is still considered a last resort. Yest statistics show that top tourist destinations have very strong domestic market. More needs to be done to tap into the domestic market by encourage Kenyans to frequent visitor attractions. Buy Kenya motto must be made loud and clear to local tourists.

Philippines' Top Destinations Lure Investors: Tourism & Real Estate Tourism and Real Estate: How Philippines' Popular Destinations Attract Investors Introduction The Philippines is a beautiful country with many islands to explore. It has lots of tourists because of its beauty and nice people. The real estate business is also growing because of this. This article talks about how tourism and real estate are connected in the Philippines and how investors are interested in buying properties in popular tourist spots. The Synergy between Tourism and Real Estate Tourism and real estate work together because when there are many tourists, there is a need for more hotels and places to stay. The Philippines has nice beaches, animals, and places to visit, so it is a popular destination. This is good for real estate because developers can build more resorts, hotels, and houses for tourists to stay in. One reason why investors like to buy properties in popular tourist spots is because they can earn money by renting them out to tourists. The Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism aims to generate TZS 968.8 billion in revenue from its institutions in the upcoming financial year, Parliament was informed on Friday. This target was disclosed by Minister for Natural Resources and Tourism, Angellah Kairuki while presenting the 2024/2025 budget estimates for her ministry. She requested parliamentary approval for TZS 348.13 billion in both recurrent and development expenditures, outlining eight key priority areas for the year. Kairuki highlighted efforts to promote Tanzania’s tourist destinations through a special program linked to the Royal Tour and Amazing Tanzania documentaries. Strategies include advertising during major football championships, partnering with airline companies, participating in international festivals, and leveraging international media and social platforms. Other priorities include developing strategic tourism products such as historical sites, beach tourism, conference and events tourism, and sports, health, and cultural tourism. The ministry also plans to enhance security for wildlife, forests, bees, and historical sites, and implement conservation plans to boost forest and bee product value. Public education and awareness campaigns on conservation and sustainable use of resources will be intensified. The ministry aims to improve statistical systems, conduct strategic research, and enhance revenue collection systems to increase foreign currency earnings. To address wildlife-related challenges, the ministry has allocated TZS 45.1 billion for the next fiscal year. This includes plans to purchase two helicopters for the Tanzania National Parks (TANAPA) and the Ngorongoro Conservation Area Authority (NCAA). In a positive development, the ministry will employ 850 new conservation officers, with 454 joining TANAPA, 345 joining the Tanzania Wildlife Authority (TAWA), and 51 joining NCAA.

From local protests in Venice, Malaga, Barcelona, Amsterdam and even in Japan we can see that the simplified aim of maximising tourist numbers while disregarding the quality of life of the destinations' citizens is not a recipe for a sustainable industry. As much as we promote the preservation of the local natural ecology of a holiday location it is as increasingly important to maintain if not improve the quality of life of the local population. Hillwalk Tours has always emphasised a leave no trace policy which aims to minimise tourists' impact on the environment. We do this hand in hand with supporting local suppliers of accommodation and transport. The old B&B holiday to the seaside destinations has long since passed. Reduced airfares have made alternatives far too attractive. Our self-guided hiking holiday model supports these small businesses and local communities. Our launch of hiking tours on the Fishermen's Trail in Portugal is done while supporting the Association of the Rota Vicentina. A local "associative and community project ...[with] many people and entities that contribute daily to the realization of this dream, which is now a beautiful reality". It is a regional organisation which aims to promote this relatively poor area as a sustainable tourist destination to benefit both locals and visitors alike. Collaboration requires communication and some organisation. It is not easy, yet when government agencies allow local people to fashion their future they can succeed. This 450km network of trails was officially launched in just 2012 and is now a world class active holiday destination. Contrast this with the trouble the Irish Times article details about the Greek tourist industry which faces over tourism, bad planning law implementation, poor support for niche markets and a general indifference to a sustainable future in a changing world and you will see how the necessity for a balanced ecology does not mean the natural environment alone but the people that live in it as well. #sustainable #tourism #hiking #holiday #ecology https://lnkd.in/eUHE6WV8

TOURISM THAT LACKS PROMOTION In Tanzania, there are various types of tourism, ranging from wildlife tourism, and cultural tourism, to beautiful beach tourism, etc. Canoe tourism helps young people earn an income and sustain their daily lives. Peace for Conservation believes that this type of tourism has been neglected, lacking promotion and branding as well. If tourism stakeholders work together, canoe tourism will be a rapidly growing kind of tourism package in Tanzania. In the Mwabalugu area of the Lamadi ward, there is a group involved in canoe tourism. Due to the lack of safety equipment like life jackets, some visitors are unable to fully enjoy canoe tourism. Peace for Conservation Non-Governmental organization (NGO) is requesting that tourism stakeholders in Tanzania assist these youths by bringing visitors who are interested in this type of canoe tourism. For the fiscal year FY 2025, Peace for Conservation plans to provide training for those who offer canoe tours in Mwabalugu village to be equipped with knowledge of tour guides focused on responsible tourism and eco-tourism (bird-watching guides, and safety, as well as hospitality tourism) aimed at building capacity and also promoting this type of tourism on social media, travel blogs, and travel journals so that more people can learn about it. #endbeyondtanzania#asiliaafrica#tanapa#tawa#boditautaliitanzania#ephraimmafuru#Tato#community#conservation.
