Yesterday our German team visited the BVES Bundesverband Energiespeicher Systeme e.V. Investor Summit in Berlin. The event discussed the future of Energy Storage Systems, bringing together the leading players in the industry. The Key Takeaways? 💡 The interest and relevance in large-scale battery projects is growing. This was demonstrated in the number of attendees, that was 10 times greater than in 2022! Lawmakers are under great pressure to create regulatory frameworks that allow for large-scale projects to be economically sustainable. BVES is making significant progress in advocating the industry’s needs. We are on the right track with our Battery Storage Pipeline at Copenhagen Energy, as the industry is continuously evolving, and investor interest keeps growing! We are thrilled about these developments and excited for what's ahead! 🎉

📣 Atlantica has taken part in the First Edition of the Italian Storage Event, organized by Renmad Storage Italia 2024. This is the first conference of its kind to be held in Italy that purely focuses on energy storage and the Atlantica Italian development team attended on 16 and 17 April. Our Asset Manager Riccardo Lenzi formed part of the panel: “Attract Investment for your Storage Projects” in which he highlighted: ✔ Atlantica’s BESS strategy and goals in Italy ✔ The importance of a clear regulatory framework to understand permitting and future incentives ✔ The need to have a tentative calendar in place for these regulatory incentives every year and for every area so that investors can plan their projects Gonzalo Martin, Corrado Pani and Domenico Cavicchia also attended the conference 👏

At the recently concluded TaiyangNews - All About Solar High-Efficiency Solar Technologies 2024 Virtual Conference, Alex Barrows, Head of PV at Exawatt - now part of CRU reiterated the general belief that TOPCon has surpassed PERC and will dominate the market for some time, if the capacity expansion plans of the various manufacturers were any indication. The integrated manufacturing cost for TOPCon has reached parity with PERC and is now even headed lower. For heterojunction (HJT), Barrows said that though it enjoys efficiency advantages, the technology is not likely to reach cost parity with TOPCon in the near future, unless there are aggressive cost-downs or a jump of 2.5% absolute efficiency improvement. Hence, it will likely remain a niche technology. But, the question to consider is what will follow TOPCon: back contact (BC) or tandems? The longer it takes for tandems to become commercial products, the more likely it is to see a widespread transition to XBC. This is an interesting conversation and one line struck me: "“We move a third of natural gas across North America. When the penetration of renewables increases in a State, natural gas demand for power generation also increases. Because you need to be able to firm up that intermittent source of energy.” This is certainly true for Canada where the backstop for intermittency for renewables from Alberta to Ontario is natural gas plants (Quebec with its big hydro dams is the big exception). I've also heard this from leaders in other countries - natural gas is important to country pursuit energy supply diversification, emissions reduction and renewables integration in particular. This point was made by the Institute of Energy Economics, Japan - IEEJ representative on Energy for a Secure Future recent webinar "Can Canada Deliver". We need to pay attention. #energy4people #energyaffordability #energysecurity https://lnkd.in/eK4aD6hD
