Insightful article on investors' views on the size of investment trusts and why there's so many mergers from Simon Elliott, Client Director J.P. Morgan Asset Management in Portfolio Adviser. We are also lucky to have Simon as a board member of The Association of Investment Companies (AIC) Simon concludes; "So, will the current wave of mergers continue? It’s likely many of the easier deals have already been completed, leaving more complex transactions for the future. But with investors increasingly demanding larger, more efficient trusts, boards may need to consider consolidation as a viable option to stay competitive. "While bigger isn’t necessarily always better, for many trusts, merging may be the key to survival in today’s investment landscape." Nick Britton, CFA, MCSI Nick Gardner Vanessa Booth Alexander Denny Cathy Pitt Richard Stone Stephanie Coxon Debra Henderson-Burton Juliet Webber Simon Crinage Kerry Haxby-Dean Carolyn Morgan Alexandra Ellaby Anoushaa M.

We are often asked about the size of the pipeline of quality investment management businesses we are considering. It's of little surprise given the talk on the streets about general private equity's dry powder and in some instances returning investor money because there are few opportunities in which to invest. That's where GP staking is different. The Australian investment management sector is one of Australia's biggest, largely thanks to our compulsory superannuation system which drives enormous pools of savings. The result is that we have a promising pipeline of quality investment management businesses in which we could take a stake. In fact, our current pipeline of investment opportunities at various stages of consideration is $795 million. We will be whittling that down based on our investment process's kill factors. But we won't be short of great businesses in which to take a minority stake to support growth.
