Reflecting on Class Day last week, and we can't help but smile! 🥳 This year's class day speaker, Irene Dankwa-Mullan MD MPH, shared three pillars that she believes should guide us all as we all continue our professional journeys. 1. Embrace a social mission 👩🏽⚕️ To embrace a social mission or a social responsibility means actively advocating for and implementing equitable healthcare policies and practices that address disparities. To ensure that every individual, regardless of their background, lives to their full potential and accesses the care they need. 2. Trust 🤞🏽 In a world that is filled with uncertainties and complexities, the foundation on which the healthcare institution stands is not merely the strength of the scientific achievements but the depth of trust that it's able to gain among those it serves or those it intends to serve. 3. Centering community in your work 🏘️ Health is not created in the corridors of hospitals or institutions or health centers but in the richness of our communities. It's in the air we breathe. It's in the parks where our children play. It's in our workplaces. Health is implicated in all the policies that govern our communities, our schools, and our cities. From her personal journey to her educational and professional career, Irene shared inspiring stories and experiences that will stick with us all. After the third pillar, she praises the now alums, "Your challenge is to place the seed of health in all these places. Strive to be leaders who do not just work in communities but truly work with them. Communities are the agents of change. Learn their needs, understand their challenges, and tailor your interventions to bring about real, sustainable changes within these communities." Thank you, Irene, for your wisdom and inspirational words. 🌟💫 📸: Eli Burakian D'00 Link to class day recording: https://lnkd.in/ecAZa_Fz
