🤝New online safety administrative arrangement with the European Commission confirmed. Tackling online harms is a global challenge, which is why working with other international online safety regulators is so important. Ofcom and DG CNECT - the Commission's function responsible for online safety regulation - have therefore signed a new administrative arrangement on online safety. DG CNECT is responsible for implementing the European Union's Digital Services Act, while Ofcom is the UK's online safety regulator - implementing the Online Safety Act. This new arrangement will allow both organisations to share insights and best practice as we seek to make the internet safer - benefiting from our respective expertise and reducing cross-border frictions for companies required to comply with both the Online Safety Act and Digital Services Act. #OnlineSafety #Regulation #International

🆕 Data protection and online safety go hand in hand 🤝 Our new joint statement with Ofcom outlines new ways we are working together to protect people online. We published our original joint statement in 2022 setting out our shared vision for a clear and coherent regulatory landscape for online services, ensuring compliance with both our regimes: https://lnkd.in/eJVCqA5b This latest statement builds upon that vision by setting out several areas of enhanced collaboration, including: - Identifying issues of common interest and relevance to both regulators, - Identifying where we are supervising the same services or considering issues related to the same services, - Using regular staff meetings to share information in relation to collaborative themes and companies of mutual interest, where appropriate. The Digital Services Act (DSA) by the European Commission is a landmark regulation aimed at creating a safer digital space, protecting users' rights, and ensuring a fair digital marketplace. Introduced in 2020, it sets new obligations for digital platforms, emphasizing transparency, accountability, and the handling of illegal content. The DSA is a key step towards a more regulated and responsible digital environment in the EU.
