Transmission is highly underinvested in across North America. While the reasons for this are many, there was a great report released by PNNL demonstrating the benefits that increased transmission would have to emissions reduction, renewable energy expansion, energy storage benefits, and operating cost reductions. This blog is largely a summary of that report, which I’d encourage you also dive into for the details, methodology, and references that support the conclusions drawn. #energystorage #transmission #renewableenergy #solarpower #windpower #gridmodernization

This June, the Governor of New York announced the availability of $5 million that will be allocated to long duration energy storage projects via New York State’s Renewable Optimization and Energy Storage Innovation Program. Following the recent grant, program officials will further review proposals for projects consisting of energy storage capacity ranging in 10 to over 100 hours period. Proposals that will be considered for the grant will be reviewed and accepted now through the end of September 2024. Long duration energy storage is a form of energy storage that can store and emit energy over a greater and longer amount of time in comparison to standard energy storage power plants. These projects will overall assist the state of New York in meeting current electricity demands, provide an increase usage of renewable energy power generation and eliminate the consumption of fossil fuels for energy usage. Additionally, the following announced grant will assist New York in achieving the state’s goal in installing approximately 3,000 megawatts of energy storage power plants by 2030. #EnergyStorage #LongDurationEnergyStorage #BatteryStorage #RenewableEnergy #Sustainability #PowerPlants #ElectricalGrid #EnergyGeneration #ElectricPower #NewYork #MAPSearch #ENvision
