#cancerresearch #oncology #braintumor https://lnkd.in/dG5PBFhh Serotonin affects brain-tumour growth The #neurotransmitter #serotonin can influence the gene expression of brain-tumour cells by travelling into the nucleus and modifying proteins called histones. Inhibiting this process stopped an aggressive type of paediatric #brain #tumour called ependymoma from developing in mice. “This study identifies histone serotonylation as a key driver of ependymoma tumorigenesis,” report the authors.

I'm thrilled to share our latest research uncovering the intricate mechanisms through which transposable elements (TEs) contribute to gene regulation in liver cancer. 🌟 Liver-TEs are predominantly occupied by the histone demethylase, KDM1A. KDM1A negatively influences the methylation of histone H3 Lys4 (H3K4) of liver-TEs, resulting in the epigenetic silencing of HNF4A expression. By negativly affecting HNF4A methylation, KDM1A facilitates liver cancer cell proliferation, highlighting a promising therapeutic target. 🧬🔬 Kudos to our dedicated research team for their hard work and groundbreaking discoveries! 🙌 #LiverCancerResearch #GeneRegulation #TransposableElements #CancerTherapy #BiomedicalResearch #HNF4A #KDM1A

#HighlyCitedPapers 📝 Gene Expression Profiling in Early Breast Cancer—Patient Stratification Based on Molecular and Tumor Microenvironment Features — Munkácsy et al. In this paper, the authors aimed to evaluate the current evidence of using #gene expression signatures or profiling (GEP) in clinic and explore and discuss the increasing importance of immune parameters and the possibility to refine current tools with additional immune-GEPs that may help to refine prognosis and provide better predictive tools for early-stage breast #cancer. 🎗 Cancer is a disease that affects millions of people every year and kills about 10 million people every year, making it the second leading cause of death in the world. However, emerging treatment protocols such as gene therapy, cell therapy, and immunotherapy have created new hopes for the treatment of this disease. 🔖 On the occasion of World Cancer Day, the Iranian Union of Biologists, in collaboration with Tehran University of Medical Sciences, has planned a webinar with the presence of a group of the most prominent professors in this field, in which we will discuss cancer and its emerging treatments. ✅ To receive the registration link, comment "Cancer" on Instagram. https://lnkd.in/dq2vMWHi

10x Genomics' Chromium Single Cell Gene Expression and Xenium In Situ platforms played a crucial role in a study on glioblastoma (GBM) recurrence, published in Cancer Cell. Led by Professor Johanna Joyce, the research uncovered how fibrotic scars that form after treatment fuel tumor regrowth. The findings demonstrated that inhibiting both the CSF-1R pathway and scar formation significantly improved survival outcomes in preclinical trials. The study showed that these fibrotic scars, located near recurrent tumors, harbor dormant cancer cells that act as seeds for future tumor growth. Using 10x Genomics' technologies, the researchers were able to precisely analyze these scar tissues and identify promising therapeutic targets. Exploring the Power of Hematopoietic Stem Cells (HSCs) Hematopoietic Stem Cells are the unsung heroes of our body's immune system. These unique cells reside in the bone marrow and have the incredible ability to differentiate into all types of blood cells – red cells, white cells, and platelets. Why are HSCs so important? Regeneration: HSCs can self-renew, ensuring a continuous supply of blood cells throughout our lives. Therapeutic Potential: They play a key role in treatments for blood disorders like leukemia, lymphoma, and aplastic anemia. Research Frontiers: Scientists are exploring ways to harness HSCs for gene therapy, cancer treatments, and regenerative medicine.
