#Values are what a company represents internally and externally, and which guides the organization's mission and goals. These guiding values serve as a basis for decision-making, work direction, successful relationships, and standards of behavior for employees on the one hand, and for corporate management on the other hand. Therefore, the values are evident in every aspect of the company from operations, sales, marketing, finance, and human resources. Core values are also an important pillar of an organization's culture.

In my understanding, values won't be adapted by the employees when they are dictated by leadership - even if it's a group of leadership. In my previous lead HR roles and I had the honor (and moreover the pleasure) to define the company values. With the entire organization. Core values can contribute significantly to a company's success - and they are meant to last. Given this impact, they deserve to be taken seriously and to be created thoughtfully. Involve as many stakeholders in your organization as you can - build groups of employees from different BU's, different departments, positions, of different seniority, different age, ideally different nationalities, and different genders. Bring your groups together to brainstorm, to iterate, to define first values. If you like, suggest your first values in a survey to all employees and see which values they vote for. This way, you can actually include EVERYONE in this process. The more representative your groups. the more likely it is that your values are accepted and lived by everyone. Once you are aware of your own values, you can begin to understand how they can help or hinder your performance as a leader. You will understand how your values align with those of the company you work for. Conflict arises when your personal values and those of your company don't match. Lack of congruency between personal and corporate values is one of the main reasons employees leave a business. The pressure of a mismatch of values creates overwhelming conflict that is too much to handle because they relay the message, "I am unable to remain true to my true authentic self". Your role as a leader is to talk to your staff if their values are not aligned with those of the business; otherwise, you will never understand the issue or be able to help. Ultimately, if an employee's values cannot be aligned with those of the business, it may suit both parties if the employee leaves.
