American Mineralogist: Mineral and crystal chemical study of pseudo-C2/m non-metamict chevkinite-(Ce): An investigation into the intracrystalline distribution of LREE, HREE, and octahedral cations in samples from the Azores and Pakistan https://lnkd.in/gv8JX9dW X-ray structure refinements and consistent site occupancies data allowed Carbonin et al. to accurately calculate cation distribution in non-metamict chevkinite-(Ce). Crystal chemical studies help better understand the well-known ability of chevkinite to fractionate LREE from HREE and its importance in geochemical modeling (Macdonald and Belkin 2002). This study showed that heavier and smaller REE enter only the 8-coordinate A1 site. At the same time, however, particularly stretched bonds suggest the A1 polyhedron bond lengths are still too long for HREE.

American Mineralogist: Geochemical characteristics of mineral inclusions in the Luobusa chromitite (Southern Tibet): Implications for an intricate geological setting Fahui Xiong, Basem Zoheir, Xiangzhen Xu, Guolin Guo, Matthias Frische, and Jingsui Yang https://lnkd.in/gr4GQ-cY In unraveling the geological complexity of Luobusa Chromitite, this study investigates the features of Luobusa chromitite and ophiolites, revealing a multi-stage genesis involving mantle melting, melt-rock interactions, and shifts in oxygen and sulfur fugacity. Abundant platinum-group minerals, base-metal sulfides, and PGE-sulfides/alloys in chromitite signify intricate processes. Geochemical analysis and sulfur isotopes trace the Luobusa ophiolite's evolution from sub-ridge to supra-subduction zone settings. Variable ΣPGE values in chromitite suggest extensive melt fractionation. Well-crystalline Os-Ir alloys indicate early high-temperature stages, while sulfarsenide and pyrite inclusions show later stages with lower temperature and higher sulfur fugacity. Pyrite isotopes resonate with MORB and OIB characteristics, showcasing diverse magmatic sources. 

Hello linkedin family, there is this special global issue of fluoride contamination in groundwater which can not be ignored. Periodically, fluoride has an atomic number of 9 making it as a halogenated element that appear in groundwater from 0.32% contribution of the earth’s crust that enhance its reactivity and electronegativity. The most pronounced natural origins introducing the content of fluoride into groundwater zones highlight fluorite (CaF2), active volcanic pressures, hydrothermal inputs, and minerals containing fluoride content. The latest reviewed information revealed that apatite (49%) >Horablende (35%) >Biotite (33%) >Diopside (30%) are the most dominating F-bearing mineral facilitating fluoride concentration in groundwater. It would be much better if researchers can take in consideration of this parameter in nanoparticles analysis.

https://lnkd.in/dCSc7psd I am pleased to announce the publication of our recent paper titled "Estimation of porosity distribution from formation image logs and comparing the results with NMR log analysis: Implications for the heterogeneity analysis of carbonate reservoirs with an example from the Asmari reservoir, Southwest Iran" The high hydrocarbon production rate and the reduction of the complexity of the carbonate reservoirs require the evaluation of a new architecture of the reservoir, in which the simultaneous impact of the diagenetic-sedimentary processes on the petrophysical logs is investigated. The current study studies the Oligocene-Miocene Asmari Formation Iran’s giant carbonate reservoir. The results of petrographic studies, NMR T2 distribution curve, and porosity histogram show that the diagenetic-sedimentary process is the most important factor enhancing the reservoir heterogeneity. Diagenetic and sedimentary processes were traced by evaluating NMR and Image logs. Based on the results, the porosity distribution using the T2 curve and Image show a good agreement. Diagenetic processes mainly dissolution and dolomitization increased the heterogeneity of the main production zones (zones 3 and 4) of the Asmari reservoir that was confirmed using NMR and Image logs. Source: (Talanta) Simplified dual-column system for lithium (Li) purification and isotopic analysis using MC-ICP-MS. This system uses small resin and eluent volumes, achieving high yield (99.3%-99.8%) and low blank levels (~25 pg). It accommodates high cation content and evaluates factors affecting Li isotopic accuracy. Results from analyzing geological reference materials show long-term reproducibility better than 0.20 ‰ (2SD), confirming the system's efficiency.

The charnockitic suite of rocks effectively preserves the record of deep crustal processes and is known to mark the regions of high-pressure and high-temperature metamorphic regimes and is known to occur in various tectonic settings.
