IBC 2024 Conference Insights Olympics 2024: Technology to Broadcast Beyond Expectations Speakers: - Israel Esteban, CTO - BEIN Media - James D. Miles, Senior Director, Live Event Workflows - NBC Sports & Olympics - Mario Reis, Director - Olympic Broadcasting Services Moderator: - Ken Kerschbaumer, Editorial Director - SVG Europe During the session, the OBS representative explained how an OB van is entirely virtualized, while the BeIN representative, with a more traditional setup, expressed no interest in moving to ST 2110 or the cloud. He described a conservative approach, noting that his headend needs to operate daily under various constraints, unlike a one-off event. This is a good summary of where our industry stands in terms of new technology adoption, with both technological and financial limitations. This Is Not a Test: Prepping Broadcast and Digital Technologies for Paris 2024 - NAB Amplify (nabshow.com)   Transforming one event into a remote production is complex enough but the ambition of Olympics Broadcast Services cannot be underestimated. Already OBS has managed to deliver a successful remote operation for traditional processes like master control for half of the Youth Olympic Games. Only two events in Paris next month will be produced using a remote OB which seems small until you consider that OBS will showcase 3,800 hours of live action (plus 7000 recorded hours) across 329 gold medals in 32 sports over 18 days of competition across the capital and in other parts of France. The complexity is staggering, which is why test and trial is so important. That OBS is so heavily leaning into remote production to control cost, massively reduce CO2 and reduce the burden on the host city, is to be applauded because its operation truly is the gold standard by which we are all measured. This was my first time attending the IBC - International Broadcasting Convention 2024 in Amsterdam. A global forum for the brightest minds in content creation, management, and delivery, #IBC2024 didn't disappoint. The conference was full of discussions, insights, and networking opportunities. It was more than just a conference. It was a window into the future and the boundless possibilities for the media and entertainment industry. One thing is certain: the future is bright and powered by innovation and…AI.
