I learned a lot this semester as a contributor for the Historic Structure Report (HSR) for my GSU HIST 8620 Conservation & Historic Building Materials course regarding the house at the Forty Oaks Nature Preserve in Clarkston, Georgia. This course consisted of multiple fieldwork visits, hours of research, and a final presentation that gave me the opportunity to learn a great deal about architectural history (the I-House specifically) and how structures develop. Standing above the #CorinthCanal outside of Athens, with my Timmons Group bandana in hand, I couldn't help but be astonished by the feats of infrastructure that connect us across the world. The Corinth Canal is a 6.4km long (about 4 mile) dug canal in the Isthmus of Corinth, separating the Peloponnese region from the Greek mainland. The canal is only 24m wide (about 80ft) at sea level. Construction began in 67 AD and was not completed until 1893, making it one of the longest-awaited municipal projects in the world 😮 Ancient engineering like the Corinth Canal reminds us just how old some of these design practices are. At Timmons Group, we’re proud to continue that legacy of designing infrastructure that not only makes life better but just plain livable 🌎 (Can you imagine life without infrastructure?!)
