Did you hear? Our cashew mapping technical collaboration in Cambodia was recently highlighted in Planet’s most recent “Snapshot” newsletter. Mapping the land use and environmental impact of cashew production is challenging. The Cambodia General Directorate for Agriculture with support from SilvaCarbon and the SIG team have been working on an innovative system to reduce the challenges - specifically, training a neural network with high-quality satellite data to simplify and automate the process. Our upcoming study delves into Cambodia’s extensive cashew industry, using land cover datasets from PlanetScope, Sentinel-1 & 2, and Landsat imagery to map the probability of cashew plantations across the country. This critical work is just the beginning, and we hope to be able to continue to support and expand the capacity of this project in the future. The perfect start to the week yesterday for our CEO. Coffee out of a Star Wars mug, then off conducting end of season soil testing. This season we will be following the nutrient pathway further to understand whether the biology is converting soil solubilisation to better quality fruit. Until then the soil trend data can provide an excellent insight into some of the performance parameters of our BioPlan. #measuremeasuremeasure #dataisking #bioplan

💪Teaming up to combat crop pathogens At Protix, we're proud to be part of the 'Crop Residues Management 2.0: Breaking the Pathogen Cycle (Breakpaths)' project, a Public-Private Partnership initiative. This project aims to understand pathogen survival in crop residues across soil types and explore innovative treatments to manage pathogen populations. Last month, consortium partners gathered at the Wageningen Research station in Vredepeel, Netherlands, to apply various crop treatments for carrot and sugar beet. A fantastic example of #workingtogether in action!

Crazy little things called… ants🐜 They are everywhere and it has been estimated that there may be more than 25,000 species and several orders of milliards of individuals. Even though they are better known for their impact on agriculture or human anaphylactic reactions, they also play significant roles in ecosystem functioning by delivering ecosystem services, such as, biological control, soil engineering or pollination. Changes in land uses and land cover have disturbed their natural habitats with implications for ant communities as well as for human production activities. In this paper we analyzed the diversity of ground-dwelling ants in agroecosystems of Dry Chaco to obtain useful information for conservation and production practices. https://lnkd.in/dDpTA8az

👁 What are you doing between 18-22 November 2024? 🇳🇱 You can come to Wageningen to attend the 5th Ecosystem Services Partnership Europe Conference! 🎤 Consider to submit an abstract and participate in Session 38: Leveraging ecosystem services for agroecological transitions ! Check the attached for more info. 🔜 Submission by 15 July! ❓ We want to: (1) Map challenges around the importance of #ecosystemservices (ES) in #agroecological transition; (2) Discuss solutions to overcome barriers (e.g., knowledge gaps), biases and other identified challenges; (3) Propose frameworks for the harmonised integration of ES into agroecological transitions ✅ Flash talks, solution rooms + world cafè A session also linked to Agroecology is GOOD ☘ Link to the conference: https://lnkd.in/dSsnxu4P Link to our session: https://lnkd.in/dePw-8r2 Session 38 #agroecology #agroecologyforweeds #agroecologyisgood #goodhorizon
