"This book describes Lume, which provides a much needed instrument for critically monitoring, evaluating, comparing, supporting and strengthening the agroecological changes that are currently taking place in many parts of the world. This instrument is important in that it melds economic and ecological analyses and, especially, their interactions. This reflects the crucial point that, for those involved, agroecology represents an emancipatory movement aimed at radically improving their own situation... The authors of this book have indeed created a strong method. Their book is a small monument that shows the strength of combining well-informed critical theory with involvement in social movements. At the same time the book reflects the many strengths and great richness of the agroecological movement in Brazil. The authors are to be lauded and congratulated for writing such a succinct, yet convincing, book that will allow these strengths and this richness ‘travel’ to other parts of the world." #agriculture #ecology #agroecology #socialmovements Lume: https://lnkd.in/e98M2kD9

☘️ I'm so proud to share that the EU Network of Agroecology Living Labs and Research Infrastructures was officially launched this summer under the frame of AGROECOLOGY Partnership with 17 members. Thanks to three years of devoted preparatory work in the ALL-Ready and AE4EU projects, the foundations of the EU Network were already laid down between 2019-2023 in terms of operations, methods, networking tools, governance options and potential joint activities using co-creation and experimentation. 💡🤝The main objective of the EU Network - which coordinated by ÖMKi - Hungarian Research Institute of Organic Agriculture - is to connect participatory place-based innovations for enhancing knowledge sharing and for supporting multi-stakeholder co-creation of agroecology innovations across various scales in Europe. Check out the news about the launch: https://lnkd.in/dqsPqX7X In order to get familiar with the Network and its current members, discover the Partnership's website and browse the interactive map of agroecology LLs and RIs: https://lnkd.in/d_7QQ-FX Interested in becoming a member? 📝📆 Every year, the Network application opens in December. So stay tuned, because the 1st wave of application will open on 9 December 2024! Until then, prepare for your application and check out the Network Application & Criteria Guideline: https://lnkd.in/deHgbNCP #agroecology #livinglabs #researchinfrastructures #EUNetwork #research #innovation

🔍 Research cooperation at Monreberg 🔍🌍 The Sweet Chestnut Dislikes Waterlogging. This is one reason why it is not commonly found everywhere in the Lower Rhine region. As part of a research cooperation within the Agroforestry Living Lab, eleven trees were planted on Monreberg in Kalkar in November 2024. 🌳🌳 🌐 To learn more about the research, please read this post and visit the website for additional information: https://lnkd.in/edFHVEiU

Sesame oil is making room for a new product on the shelf as Dr. Zvi Peleg at The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, marks a significant milestone in agricultural innovation. The company, MaxSum Seeds, established in 2022 by the Professor's technology, is also gaining buzz from consumers. Prof. Peleg's 12-year project aims to revive local sesame cultivation in Israel, focusing on yield increase, mechanical harvesting, and seed quality improvement. Named "Jacobi" in honor of the late Jacobi Yanon, an agronomist involved in the project, the new variety boasts a remarkable 60% oil content, surpassing existing varieties. Masik Kibbutz Magal completed the first Jacobi harvest, signaling a promising future for Israeli sesame production. This achievement not only honor's Yanon's memory but also underscores progress in agricultural sustainability, ensuring a brighter future for local sesame cultivation. Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Despite their numerous health and environmental benefits, legume crops make up only 2-3% of European agriculture. Why ? EU Farmers need more resilient and performant varieties in the near future to secure and increase their pulse crop areas. As a farmer partner, RAGT is one of the few private breeders delivering pulse solutions, despite a low attractiveness of this market. 🌿 Choosing pulses means boosting farm diversity and resilience. At RAGT Seeds, we support LegumeHubEU with the project Legume Generation, an extended research on pea and soybean crops. 🌱 Our Contributions: - Providing top-tier germplasm - Running multilocation trials with field phenotyping - Studying agronomic and quality traits 🚀 Join us in transforming the tendency! Learn more at the Legume Generation site and say hello to Lars-Gernot Otto from IPK Leibniz-Institut and Donal Murphy-Bokern, Science Coordinator. Let’s make a sustainable impact together! 👋 Think solutions, Think RAGT #pulses #soybean #peas #agriculturalinnovation #plantbreeding #thinksolutionsthinkragt
#LegumeGeneration Meet & Greet 👋 Say hello to the Project Coordinator Lars-Gernot Otto IPK Leibniz-Institut and the Science Coordinator Donal Murphy-Bokern! 🌱IPK is a leading international scientific organisation in plant research and conservation of diversity! Their research goals are directed towards an efficient and sustainable supply of food, energy and raw materials and thus towards meeting global challenges. 🔎Donal Murphy-Bokern is a versatile agricultural scientist and economist, specialising in agronomy and food systems research. Much of his current work is dedicated to supporting the European Union's Horizon Europe framework programmes. ✅The coordinators are responsible for the overall management of the project and providing guidance to the consortium on the research and innovation work! As a scientist, I believe we all encounter rigorous peer review. The myth of Reviewer 2 is well known. Our recent experience with Reviewer 2 was no exception—tough critiques, challenging questions. I admit, at first, I closed the review and took a deep breath! 🤯 But through those exact comments, we refined our work and unearthed new insights. Today, I'm pleased to share that our paper has been published in a "old-fashioned" journal. While the process was slower (partially because of me 🤣), the satisfaction of delivering stronger work is higher. So, I am actually thankful to Reviewer 2 (and Reviewer 1, of course) 🚀 I think we are all sometimes Reviewer 2 🤣 For those who want to know more about mussel feeding ecology, here is a link to the paper:
