Covariant is giving robots human-like capabilities Covariant is an OpenAI spinoff started in 2017. At the time, OpenAI was about to abandon real-world robotics because of the lack of proper datasets So Covariant needed to start gathering real-world foundational datasets to train ad-hoc models They seem to have achieved that part of the goal and now it is teaching robots how to work through the anomalies of the real world As of now, the robots can interact with people via an interface, both with textual and image data. A lot has to be done, but these robots are showing a lot of skills in turning human commands into actual physical actions, such as moving/lifting items, also in the presence of noisy overlapping among the objects.
