🛫 Saudi Arabia is renewing its airport privatization program with two regional airports, Abha and Taif, each part of a USD 1 billion public-private partnership (PPP) initiative. The 30-year design-build-finance-operate-maintain (DBFOM) contracts will: · Abha: Expand the existing airport to handle 13 million passengers annually by 2030. · Taif: Construct a new airport to increase capacity from 600,000 to 4 million passengers annually by 2030, scalable to 7.4 million by 2053. Recent legal reforms in Saudi Arabia aim to protect foreign investors, encouraging global interest. Today marked a significant milestone for Riyadh Air | طيران الرياض as it launched its first non-commercial flight from the capital’s King Khalid International Airport as part of its certification process. This was a crucial step in #SaudiArabia’s second national carrier toward full certification and obtaining an Air Operator Certificate from the GACA - General Authority of Civil Aviation - Saudi Arabia. The Public Investment Fund (PIF)’s subsidiary, chaired by Yasir Al Rumayyan, was unveiled in March 2023 by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman as part of the Kingdom’s drive to become a global #aviation leader by expanding connectivity to over 250 destinations and tripling annual passenger traffic to 330 million. The signing of a major contract between SAL Saudi Logistics Services Company and Riyadh Airports Company signifies a major investment in the country's aviation #infrastructure. The agreement, which is worth SAR 458 million ($122 million), is centred on the improvement and leasing of air cargo facilities at King Khaled International Airport in Riyadh's Cargo Village. The agreement, signed on May 21st, details plans for the building of over 90,000 square metres of air cargo infrastructure over a 20-year period, according to an official declaration to the market. An approval from Saudi Arabia and an approval from the African Civil Aviation Commission have been obtained. A new airline focusing on the African market will be launched by Saudi Arabia, according to reports. In a report citing multiple sources, Saudi Arabia's Al Eqtisadiah Arabic newspaper reported that the airline will launch in Riyadh to promote tourism and investment in the kingdom and the African continent. According to the report, Saudi Arabia and the African Civil Aviation Commission (AFCAC) have approved the project. Al Eqtisadiah said the company's routes and details of the launch are still to be announced. It will be the relaunch of a defunct airline that operated in Saudi Arabia between 2016 and 2021 but was forced to shut down because of economic difficulties.
