The Teacher Internship Collaboration South Africa (TICZA) was conceptualised in 2018, and formally established in 2021, through the partnership of education sector organisations. TICZA is a collective impact collaboration that aims to institutionalise extended student-teacher internships. These internships comprise teaching practice opportunities and programmes at schools managed by NGOs and higher education institutions that exceed the average work-integrated learning (WIL) required by teacher education qualifications. TICZA comprises NGO implementers, higher education institutions, teachers unions, NGO networks, research institutes, the Departments of Basic Education and Higher Education and Training, the South African Council for Educators (SACE) and many others. TICZA is currently managed by a Convening Group of JET Education Services (JET), the Bertha Centre for Social Innovation & Entrepreneurship located at the University of Cape Town, Bridge Innovation and Trialogue. The National Association of Social Change Entities in Education (NASCEE) was recently added to support TICZA's work.
