MTAT would like to express gratitude to everyone who supported our alumni celebration, particularly Sanlam for allowing us to use their event space. The event was an opportunity to recognize the hard work of our alumni in completing their studies and to highlight the positive impact they have on their schools and the wider community. It also provided a platform to connect with stakeholders from various industries who are committed to empowering the education sector in South Africa. Together, we can achieve so much more for our children. More than a curriculum, more than a classroom, more than a teacher for more communities.

“This is a good method. Student teachers who are trained while attending school are more knowledgeable because they go to work knowing how to teach. They already know what is really happening at schools,” - DBTRS Mentor Teacher. The Teacher Internship Collaboration South Africa (TICZA) was conceptualised in 2018, and formally established in 2021, through the partnership of education sector organisations. TICZA is a collective impact collaboration that aims to institutionalise extended student-teacher internships. These internships comprise teaching practice opportunities and programmes at schools managed by NGOs and higher education institutions that exceed the average work-integrated learning (WIL) required by teacher education qualifications. TICZA comprises NGO implementers, higher education institutions, teachers unions, NGO networks, research institutes, the Departments of Basic Education and Higher Education and Training, the South African Council for Educators (SACE) and many others. TICZA is currently managed by a Convening Group of JET Education Services (JET), the Bertha Centre for Social Innovation & Entrepreneurship located at the University of Cape Town, Bridge Innovation and Trialogue. The National Association of Social Change Entities in Education (NASCEE) was recently added to support TICZA's work. MTAT Professional Development Understanding child development is at the heart of effective teaching and coaching. Our pre-service teachers and intern coaches recently had the opportunity to participate in the MTAT hands-on workshop facilitated by Ronelle Davel, where we delved deep into the nuances of child development and its profound impact on learning, both in the classroom and the sports field. But that's not all! Our pre-service teachers also had the privilege of attending the Global Leadership Summit, thanks to the generous sponsorship from Ruimsig Gemeente. This summit was a remarkable gathering of visionary leaders, sharing insights and strategies to drive positive change in education and beyond. We are incredibly grateful for partners like Ruimsig Gemeente, whose dedication to education and community enrichment is truly inspiring. Together, we're making a meaningful difference in the lives of our students and shaping a brighter future for generations to come. Here's to continued collaboration and impact! #ChildDevelopment #Education #Coaching #GlobalLeadershipSummit #Partnership #Gratitude

Active citizenship was the theme for last Friday’s workshop. Active citizenship is crucial for the functioning and well-being of any society. As change agents in their communities, our pre-service teachers and intern coaches need to understand their role as citizens of South Africa. Engage South Africa (My Voice) facilitated the workshop and looked at the following areas among other things: Participation in Democracy: In a democratic system, active citizenship means participating in decision-making processes by voting in elections. Our pre-service teachers and intern coaches were encouraged to vote in the upcoming elections. Accountability: Active citizens hold their government and elected representatives accountable for their actions. By staying informed about issues, asking questions, and demanding transparency; citizens can ensure that those in power act in the best interests of the public. Community Engagement: Active citizenship strengthens communities by fostering a sense of belonging and solidarity. When citizens participate in local initiatives, volunteer work, and community events, they contribute to the social fabric and help address challenges. One of our core pillars at MTAT is “We serve”. Our pre-service teachers and intern coaches are exposed and expected to be involved in volunteer work in their communities. Problem Solving: Active citizens are often at the forefront of addressing societal issues; and finding solutions to complex problems. Be it; advocating for environmental conservation, promoting education reform, or tackling poverty, citizen-led initiatives can drive meaningful change. My Voice exposed our pre-service teachers and intern coaches to communication channels they can use to address problems. Active citizenship is essential for building and sustaining vibrant, democratic societies where all individuals thrive and contribute to the common good. Thank you, to Engage South Africa for empowering our pre-service teachers and intern coaches.

Check out our latest community outreach efforts! More Than a Teacher (MTAT) wrapped up Term 1 with impactful visits to Claremont Community Center and Sivuleleni Junior School in Zola (Soweto). Our students had the opportunity to make a difference by distributing lunch packs and Easter eggs to children at Claremont, organizing games, and handing out Easter eggs to the learners at Sivuleleni. At MTAT, we believe in empowering young people to become change agents in their communities. One of our core pillars is providing opportunities for our students to experience the joy of serving others with their talents, time, and treasure. Community outreaches benefit those we serve and enrich our students' lives, fostering empathy, compassion, and a sense of purpose. We are incredibly proud of our students for their dedication to making a positive impact, and we look forward to continuing to empower them to be forces for good in their communities. Together, we can create a brighter future for all. #MoreThanATeacher #CommunityOutreach #EmpoweringYouth #ServiceLearning

Financial Literacy Matters! As we navigate the complexities of the modern world, financial literacy stands out as a critical skill set. It empowers individuals to make informed money decisions, from budgeting and saving to investing and retirement planning. Why is financial literacy important? 1️⃣ **Empowerment: It gives individuals the knowledge and confidence to manage their finances effectively, reducing stress and uncertainty. 2️⃣ **Smart Choices: Understanding concepts like interest rates, inflation, and credit helps in making smart financial choices and avoiding debt traps. 3️⃣ **Future Planning: Financially literate individuals are better equipped to plan for the future, whether it's buying a home, starting a business, or saving for retirement. 4️⃣ **Economic Stability: A financially literate population contributes to a stable economy by making sound financial decisions that benefit both individuals and society. Thank you to the team from Hartlines for facilitating a financial literacy workshop for our pre-service teachers and intern coaches and to Mr Justice Kekana for providing further information from a financial advisor perspective.💪💰 #FinancialLiteracy #MoneyManagement #Empowerment #FinancialEducation #MTAT #MTAC
