Energy-efficient homes are becoming increasingly important as the UK government raises energy performance standards. Homes with an EPC rating of A or B not only reduce energy costs but also enhance comfort and sustainability, offering long-term benefits for homeowners. Acorn's new-build homes are EPC rated A and B, ensuring our developments are environmentally conscious and cost-efficient for residents. With the growing demand for sustainable living, choosing an energy-efficient home has never been more timely. *Capital is at risk and not all investments will be suitable for all investors #sustainableliving #energyefficiency #greenhomes

🚨 More energy-efficient homes are coming!! The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced their strongest energy efficiency standards to date for new home construction. This means that 1 in 4 new homes across the nation could be built to stronger energy standards per RMI analysis. What are the benefits? 💸 Reduced Energy Bills: These new standards are projected to cut household energy bills by up to a third! That's significant savings that can add up quickly. 🦺 Improved Safety: Energy-efficient homes often have features that enhance indoor air quality and reduce the risk of moisture-related problems, creating a healthier and safer living environment. 🌍 A Greener Future: By lowering overall energy consumption in new homes, these standards contribute to a more sustainable future for our communities for generations. Buildings lose or gain heat through air leakage and/or through conduction, which is the ability of a material to transfer heat. The volume of warm air lost through air leakage is however much higher than that lost through conduction. Quite the most constant and assured source of renewable heat in any occupied building is that which is derived from its occupants. Now that over 70% of the population spend up to 90% of their time indoors we must explore the benefits of Passivhaus standards. There is no need to spend any more time on the Future Homes Standard as this is already outdated. We must focus our efforts on dramatically reducing our energy consumption, and reducing costs. We can easily do this immediately, by embracing Passivhaus standards and improving on these standards. We must develop positive energy homes, those which produce more renewable energy than they consume so that households can reverse outgoings on energy, into income. That is how best to eliminate the housing crisis and to eliminate fuel poverty. Passivhaus do have a standard for retrofits, and that is where we can make a start in our continued journey to net zero. The mistake which governments make is to focus on reducing carbon emissions only, what governments must do is to reduce costs by reducing consumption, and allow the reduction of carbon emissions to be a consequence of the former.
