Magical things happen when teachers are given the creative freedom. There are specific educational goals and outcomes in every curriculum, but when the learning is brought outdoors, many times the teachers are encouraged to adapt, be flexible and spontaneous. When the children are emotionally present and engaged in an activity, for example when children are discovering new 'recipes' on their own at the mud kitchen, or when a child stops to look at his shadow, the teachers adapt and shift the learning based on what they observe with the children. The curriculum shifts as the teachers begin to fuel the children's curiosity by asking questions, guiding and even expanding/ adding on to their ideas. This form of outdoor experiential learning is embraced at Mosaic Play Academy across its core programmes (playgroups & after-school)... and perhaps this is why the teachers always have as much fun as the children in the classes because teaching and learning are intertwined and become so much more enjoyable and effective for both parties! #outdoorlearning #earlychildhood #playgroup #outdoorfun #experientiallearning #children #learningthroughplay #teaching #teacher

Ever thought about what children do most of the time at nursery and school? As parents we're hoping they would have learnt something tangible. Something interesting, something engaging and of course something which had a content to boost their knowledge of the world and the environment in which we live. In fact children at nursery and those attending reception class, learn mainly through play. This simple every day event teaches children: *Communication and language development *Personal, social and emotional development * Physical development These skills and their learning journeys can be learnt in so many ways. Sometimes through adult led structured activities as well as free play, initiated by the children themselves. Do children with special education needs learn through play too? Yes they do and depending on their particular need, the process of learning may be different. The important aspect is that all children should be included in play, regardless of their need. So the next time you ask your child what they did at school or nursery and they say "nothing" be assured that learning, took place. #learning #eyfs #earlyyears #nurseryschool #kindergarten #primaryschool #receptionclass #year1 #SEND #play

Working with young learners requires creativity and connection! I recently had a rewarding session with this enthusiastic child, where we used a clay activity to introduce sight words. Engaging with clay not only made learning fun but also fostered rapport, allowing her to explore language in a hands-on, interactive way. Activities like these emphasise the importance of play in education, making concepts more memorable and enjoyable. Interactive approaches truly empower children to embrace learning with excitement! #SpecialEducation #InteractiveLearning #HandsOnLearning #ChildDevelopment

Let's give schools permission to dial back the testing. Let's do it by dialing up the learning with more play in school settings. Less sitting and more moving will lead to happier classrooms and children enjoying school. School shouldn't be a chore, learning should be fun. With play, we reinstate fun into learning. #movemorelearnmore #powerofplay #playmatters #outsmartthewiggles #movementpowerslearning #strongbodiesstrongbrains #playgap #brainscience #pe #recess #morepe #morerecess #SEL #teachers #teaching #teacherlife #curriculum #professionaldevelopment #elevatingchildhood #physicaldevelopment #developmentallyappropriate #DAP #playdivide #developmentallyappropriatepractice #childhoodunplugged #playisnotfrivolous #startwiththefoundation #rootcause #strongfoundation #startingwiththeroot

🎉 Engaging in play goes beyond mere entertainment; it serves as a fundamental tool in preparing children for school. The success of our playgroups is evident, with a remarkable 93% of children meeting their school readiness goals, all thanks to the innovative Play-based Program Assessment Tool we have implemented. 🧩✨ Witnessing the profound impact that play has on the cognitive development of young individuals is what motivates us day in and day out. Our commitment lies in creating environments that seamlessly integrate learning and play, recognizing the symbiotic relationship between the two. 🌟💜 By intertwining play and education, we are not only fostering academic growth but also nurturing essential life skills in children from a young age. The ability to problem-solve, communicate effectively, and collaborate with others are just a few examples of the benefits that play-based learning offers. As a result, children are not only academically prepared but also equipped with the tools necessary to navigate the complexities of the modern world. Embracing the philosophy of learning through play not only enhances academic outcomes but also promotes holistic development. It encourages creativity, imagination, and critical thinking, all of which are crucial in preparing children for the challenges that lie ahead. #PlayToLearn #EarlyChildhoodEducation #SchoolReadiness #LearnThroughPlay
