Are you certain about the classification of your company's pickup trucks as commercial motor vehicles (CMVs)? 🚚 The notion that a company pickup truck might be a commercial motor vehicle (CMV) may seem highly unlikely to some. But, an examination of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSRs) could very well reveal that some smaller fleet vehicles qualify as regulated CMVs. Visit our website to learn how to determine if your company pickup truck is a CMV and what to do if it is. https://cc94.co/3J7CixG #trucking #trucker #TruckDriver #Truck #DOT #Compliance

Starting in 2029, vehicle manufacturers must make automatic emergency braking standard in cars and light trucks The U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) finalized a new Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS No. 127) that will make automatic emergency braking (AEB), including pedestrian AEB, standard on all passenger cars and light trucks by September 2029. The new standard requires all cars be able to stop and avoid contact with a vehicle in front of them up to 62 miles per hour and that the systems must detect pedestrians in both daylight and darkness. In addition, the standard requires that the system apply the brakes automatically up to 90 mph when a collision with a lead vehicle is imminent, and up to 45 mph when a pedestrian is detected. This final rule applies to nearly all U.S. light vehicles (gross vehicle weight rating of 10,000 pounds or less). A Final Regulatory Impact Analysis that presents the benefits and costs associated with the standard is included in the Final Rule: https://lnkd.in/gCrVG__5 In June 2023, NHTSA and the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration announced a separate notice of proposed rulemaking that would require heavy vehicles, including tractor trailers, to have AEB, which the agencies are in the process of finalizing.

The new rules require light vechiles to automatically brake to avoid hitting another vehicle at speeds of up to 100 km/h. Vechiles are expected to begin applying their brakes at speeds up to 144 km/h if a collision is imminent. That’s higher than the maximum U.S. speed limit of 136 km/h The system will have to detect pedestrians, too. An estimated 41,000 people were killed in automobile accidents in the United States in 2023. https://lnkd.in/d6dRSrGz
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration NHTSA announced a new Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard that requires U.S. vehicle manufacturers to make automatic emergency braking, including pedestrian AEB, standard on all passenger cars and light trucks by 2029. In a recent blog post, we discussed how software-defined AEB systems work and save lives. 👉 https://blck.by/44RDvmj

As specialists in commercial vehicle safety, Spillard reminds motorists to be aware of heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) when driving on the left-hand side of the vehicle, this is known as the driver’s blind spot. It’s crucial not to linger in the left lane as you are in the HGV blind spot area. Following the guidance of the Highway Code, try to minimise time spent in areas of limited visibility. Be aware of the HGV blind spot. https://lnkd.in/e7aMZzu5 #NationalHighways #HGV #LargeVehicles #RoadSafety #KnowTheZones

Older Driver Safety Awareness Week is December 2-6, 2024 – a time to promote awareness of the resources that have been developed for Ohio families. Older Drivers and Vehicles - Adapted Vehicles Many vehicles can be modified to accommodate an older driver’s specific needs by adding adaptive equipment. This equipment can be as simple as a swivel seat for more convenient access, a hand control to make it easier to operate a vehicle, or a pedal extender. Make sure to ask a qualified mobility dealer for training on how to use the equipment. Driver Assistance Technologies Each year, vehicle manufacturers release new and improved driver assistance technologies to help keep road users safer. The technologies include everything from automatic emergency braking to blind spot intervention and lane keeping assistance. Driver assistance technologies aren’t just about keeping drivers safe; they also keep pedestrians and other road users safe. #OlderDriverSafetyAwarenessWeek #AAA3Cares

PSA: You may be able to see a semi-truck, but you can make yourself completely vanish to a truck driver if you aren’t aware. This video gives you the visual. Don’t do it. #StopAndThink #SafetyIsPriorityOne #BennettBest
Did you know that when you're directly in front of a semi, the driver in the truck cannot see you in your car? Truck drivers make a concerted effort to maintain a considerable distance between themselves and the vehicle in front of them. As drivers of passenger vehicles, we should never brake check semi-trucks, for the sake of our own safety, their safety, and the safety of everyone else on the road. #bennett #bennettsafety #semisafety #facts #interestingfacts
