🥳 #MOVING2020 Project Final Results for Mountain Areas are on the European Commission's Horizon Results Platform! After four years of impactful work, MOVING formally concludes tomorrow, just as the new EU Priorities (2024-2029) for mountain regions take shape. The project has worked hand-in-hand with policy-makers, experts, and practitioners to build strategies for sustainable mountain #valuechains ⛰️ Three key results are now featured on the Horizon Results Platform: 🔹 Policy Tools for Mountain Areas: MOVING’s policy tools guide decision-makers across all levels, ensuring that future European, national, and regional strategies reflect mountain-specific insights. These tools support the post-2027 EU policy framework, aiming to enhance #resilience and #sustainability. 🔹 23 Mountain Areas Vulnerabilities and Opportunities through Value Chains: These tools are intended to simplify and guide the improvement, upgrading and decision-making of mountain value chains to face with existing threats (e.g. #ClimateChange, demography). 🔹 MOVING Conceptual Analytical Framework: An overarching framework setting out the key concepts to analyse, understand and contribute to sustainable and resilient value chains in the mountains. It will help scientific communities to analyse and understand mountain value chains' dynamics and contribution to resilience and sustainability. In Alaska, our seasons and daylight have dramatic impacts on our lives–and the lives of migratory animals, spawning salmon, and other subsistence food. Because of this, and the upcoming hunting and fishing seasons, some of our researchers are taking advantage of the window of opportunity, despite being outside the typical academic calendar, to begin their work now. Researchers Dr. Nancy Kinner from the University of New Hampshire and Jun Zhuang from the University at Buffalo traveled to Nome, Alaska, where they met with their community liaison, Tom Ukallaysaaq Okleasik, to jumpstart a portion of their project. The broader project, “Adapting, Assessing and Mitigating Risks to a Complex Future in the Arctic; A Multi-Stakeholder Framework,” will create a framework to study optimal partnership strategies, create decision-making models, and generate case studies and decision support tools. It will include a focused study in Nome. Specifically, a Climate Assessment and Proactive Resilience Initiative (CAPRI), to study the impacts of climate change and test resilience strategies. The team has partnered with Okleasik, who was born and raised in Nome, in order to integrate Indigenous knowledge and priorities into these models. Okleasik was selected for this role in a competitive bid process, and is familiar with the ADAC Emeritus Center, having served as one of its Executive Counselors. In this interview with KNOM Radio Mission, Inc.'s Ben Townsend, Dr. Kinner discusses the new models and maps that will be created, and their value. She notes that artistically rendered 3D Conceptual Models can overlay various layers of overlapping impact and evoke emotional responses. You can hear the audio on our webpage: https://lnkd.in/gsyY5Xbx Stay tuned for more exciting project updates over the summer and fall as our researchers, workforce developers, educators, and community partners get to work. #dhs_coe_research DHS Science and Technology Directorate

All the policy briefs from the CliCNord Research Project have been collected in a final policy report. https://lnkd.in/dgUNuXC4 - The report is relevant for practitioners and students working with emergency management and climate change adaptation in remote areas across the Nordic countries. - The report presents the main recommendations from the project in the form of ten policy briefs that have been published during the project. - The project aims at reaching conclusions that can be relevant both across different countries and climate challenges, as well as more context specific findings. Therefore, the first two policy briefs in this report will present recommendations drawn across all the project’s eight cases, while the following eight policy briefs give context specific advice and insights building on the results from the individual cases.
