Pi Day is on March 14 (3.14), May the 4th is Star Wars Day, and it’s only natural that August 11 (8.11) would be National 811 Day. Also known as National Safe Digging Day, 811 Day is a great reminder to know what’s below before you start digging. Chances are there are gas, electric, water, sewer or telecommunications lines buried underground near where you’re reading this right now. Hitting any one of them can range from an annoyance to a costly, life-changing mistake. It isn’t worth the gamble. Contact 811 first so you don’t have to call 911. As we say, “Safety is in your hands. Every Dig. Every Time.” Everyone has a role in preventing damage. It’s a free service, so the only way you’ll pay is if you don’t use it. Learn more about utility locates in this story we did for 811 Day with KPTV’s Around the House NW. Ever seen the rainbow of flags sprouting up in your yard and wondered what they mean? The flags serve as utility locators and help protect important underground pipes and wires, keeping your home and community safe. Here's the key to cracking their colorful code: 🟥 Red flags mark electric lines. 🟧 Orange flags indicate communication lines, like cable or internet. 🟨 Yellow flags warn of gas lines. 🟩 Green flags signify sewer lines. 🟦 Blue flags indicate water lines. ❗️❗️❗️ Important Note: These flags are there for a reason! Never remove them or mow them over. If you see them while digging, stop immediately and contact your local utility company.

Most of the district is now without power. Small pockets have power, including areas near the power station and inland areas, but most people do not have power. I have texted with the power company representative and they are aware of the situation. My past experience is that most people are back online within 48 hours. Many trees are down and so some roads are impassible. Please remember to stay safe and not take unnecessary risks with cleanup. Unfortunately, most personal injury from here on out will result from poor decisions rather than unavoidable impact. Persons who are not skilled and experienced with generators or electricity should not attempt dangerous tasks. In the realm of Utility installations, unexpected events are unfortunately quite frequent; however, they consistently provide valuable lessons. Here, we can see a routine utility pole installation unexpectedly evolving into a cable extraction mission! This situation reminded us of the importance of adaptability and problem-solving in our field. When the unexpected happens, it's crucial to stay calm, assess the situation, and implement your strategic plan. Here are a few key takeaways from an experience such as this: 👉 Preparation is Key: Always ensure thorough site assessments and planning before beginning any installation. 👉Stay Informed: Understanding the existing underground infrastructure, by using free resources such as the LSBUD portal, can prevent Utility strike surprises and keep projects on track. 👉Team Collaboration: Foster an environment where team members can communicate openly and contribute solutions. 👉Continuous Learning: Use each challenge as an opportunity to refine processes and improve future outcomes. As we navigate the complexities of utility work, it's these experiences that enhance our skills and commitment to safer digging. 🧩 For those in the industry, how do you handle unexpected challenges during installations? We'd love to hear your insights! #UtilityInstallation #ProblemSolving #Teamwork #Adaptability #Infrastructure #Safedigging #healthandsafety #DIY #Gardenprojects #groundworks #construction #contractors

In the latest episode of In the Field, we head to the City of Cedar Park, Texas, where McKim & Creed helped the City integrate two diesel generators to keep the water plant up and running in the event of a power outage. In 2021, Winter Storm Uri caused catastrophic power failures, leaving millions without power and causing widespread suffering and loss of life. Please take a look as McKim & Creed Senior Project Engineer Brian C. Pearce, P.E. walks us through the project site where once completed, will help protect the City's water supply. #InTheField #McKimCreed #Texas #Austin #CedarPark #WaterPlant #EmergencyGenerator #BackupGenerator #SCADA #TexasEngineering #AustinEngineering #PeopleHelpingPeople https://lnkd.in/e9uBbiaa IGSA POWER GenServe Planar
