This is an insightful research and is the need of the hour. Europe is far behind the innovation race and has only a fraction of technological superiority it enjoyed for almost the entirety of the 19th century. As some one living in Austria for more than a year I can unequivocally agree that complex compliances and regulatory environment combined with a general perception of risk averness has completely dampened innovation. In austria for example high taxes and complicated bureaucracy has left founders with no other choice but to leave the country. Europe is having its own brain drain! It's the need of the hour for Austria and Europe as a whole to support the startup ecosysyem with tax benefits and encourage foreign founders to consider it as a destination for there new venture. As a budding green tech entrepreneur I would love to see some policy changes that makes Austria a desirable location be based in. The power of innovation is substantial and it is innovation that will help humanity to fight climate change and pave the way for a clean and green world. Then only Europe can achieve successfully its Energy transition or ENERGYWIENDE! as we say in Deutsch! #energywiende #climatechange #startup #innovation #EU #austria

🤩 You know what made my day today? The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, announced she will propose a "28th regime" to unify startup regulations across the EU— #EUInc. 🚀 🇪🇺 "We want to propose a 28th regime which says that for these innovative startups a simple and single rulebook for the whole of the European Union will give them access to a single market and the possibility to scale up." This is BIG news 💥 A pan-European entity will take down bureaucratic hurdles and unify startup regulations across the EU, making it easier to invest, collaborate, and scale. Concretely, that means faster cross-border growth, easier access to capital, harmonized stock options, and overall a more attractive and competitive #EU. I have to say, there are a lot of things to be frustrated about innovation in the EU, but on days like these, I just wanna be grateful 🥹 Grateful for the step forward, and grateful for the democratic institutions we have, that allow initiatives like the The EU Inc Petition to voice opinions and catalyze change towards better governance. So thanks (again) to Andreas Klinger and Simon Schaefer for pushing the vision forward, and to all the 12k signatories that supported it. Looking forward! #EUInc #Innovation #FutureOfEurope

The appointment of the first EU Commissioner for Startups, Research, and Innovation should be good news, but there is a problem. According to the official Mission letter the Commissioner-designate, Ekaterina Zaharieva, is tasked with... - Supercharging Europe's startup scene 🔥 - Driving global competitiveness ⚙ - Activating investors to co-invest alongside the EIC Fund 💸 - Boosting the European Research Infrastructure 🧠 - Unlocking the potential of European Research 🔑 Here's the problem Ekaterina, Bulgaria’s former foreign minister and a trained lawyer, has... - No background in innovation ❌ - No entrepreneurial credentials ❌ - No knowledge of the European investment landscape ❌ - No credentials in executing on international infrastructure projects ❌ 😱 😱😱 Hard to imagine a similar appointment would happen in the US where practitioners are preferred over politicians. 🔨 📔 the European Parliament has to approve the decision before it is final. Do you think she should make it through and if not who would you like to see in this important new role? #europeanunion #startups #research #innovation #politics link to mission letter 👇🏼 https://lnkd.in/ds_F4mhM

🔊 A Call for Action: Unlocking Investments for European Innovation 🚀 The European Union stands at a decisive moment. As both, the Letta and Draghi reports have starkly highlighted, innovation must be prioritized to ensure Europe’s strategic autonomy and economic competitiveness on a global scale. Despite Europe’s strength in research, talent, and ideas, systemic barriers, fragmented markets and insufficient private funding are holding back our startups and scale-ups. While ambitious European founders bring breakthrough technologies to life, these innovations too often scale elsewhere - notably in the US - benefiting foreign investors and economies. To change this trajectory, concrete solutions must be implemented to mobilize private European capital, foster a stronger VC ecosystem, and ensure our innovators stay and thrive here in Europe. On behalf of key actors in Europe’s innovation ecosystem, we support the “open letter” call for: ➡️ The European Venture Capital Initiative (EVCI): A platform to connect institutional investors and VCs across Europe, creating a cohesive, well-funded innovation chain. ➡️ New long-term savings products to engage retail investors in funding Europe’s future. ➡️ Revised capital requirements for institutional investors to enable greater participation in startup financing. ➡️ Enhanced financial literacy and incentives for angel and sophisticated investors to actively support innovation. These steps, alongside broader collaboration, will unlock the potential of European private savings, accelerate innovation funding, and ensure that European ideas create European returns. At eCAPITAL, we stand ready to support this vision. Now is the time to break barriers, build champions, and secure Europe's place as a global innovation leader. 📢 I invite fellow investors, policymakers, and ecosystem leaders to engage and contribute to this critical dialogue. Let’s build a stronger, innovative Europe—together. 🌍 Read more about how institutional investors can boost the European innovative ecosystem here: https://lnkd.in/eVgephqv #Innovation #VentureCapital #EuropeanUnion #Startups #TechLeadership #EVCI #InvestInEurope

😔 I used to think Europe was doomed to lag behind in innovation. ↳ I believed massive public subsidies were the only solution, ↳ I thought Europe’s innovation gap was purely a funding issue, ↳ I assumed the EU could never catch up to the US. [https://lnkd.in/ewqnDMzQ] A common mistake for policymakers: If you want innovation, you must pour in endless funds. But many experts hold onto this flawed belief. After studying the latest productivity report by Mario Draghi, I realized new strategies that Europe must adopt: 1) 𝗙𝗼𝗰𝘂𝘀 𝗼𝗻 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗥&𝗗 𝗶𝗻𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁. 2) 𝗘𝗻𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘄𝘁𝗵 𝗶𝗻 𝗵𝗶𝗴𝗵-𝘁𝗲𝗰𝗵 𝘀𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘀 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝘀𝗼𝗳𝘁𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗯𝗶𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗰𝗵. 3) 𝗙𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗮𝗻 𝗲𝗻𝘃𝗶𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗲. 4) 𝗗𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽 𝘀𝗺𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗲𝗿, 𝗰𝗼𝗼𝗿𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗽𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗲𝘀. 5) 𝗖𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗘𝗨-𝘄𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝗱𝗶𝗴𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗯𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻. → Relying solely on public subsidies won't solve the innovation gap. → Building a thriving ecosystem for private R&D will. It's not as simple as it sounds. But the potential for a more innovative Europe is worth the effort. Building a true single market 👉 Sign the petition The multitude of countries and cultures in Europe is its unfair advantage. But because of that, our startup scene is fragmented. Legal and regulatory compliance is a burden, and cross-border collaboration is rare. While US angels invest coast-to-coast, European capital sticks within national borders. The results: stifled momentum, unrealized potential, and an artificial limit on our startups’ chances of success. Despite these challenges, Europe stands at the threshold of an exciting future. We’re outflanking the US in new tech founders. We’re a global leader in climate tech investment. Our deep tech scene is thriving, and European startups create jobs three times faster than other sectors. That's why Rise Europe, alongside leading entrepreneurs and investors, are backing the EU Inc initiative! This movement aims to create a single pan-European start-up entity, simplifying cross-border operations, attracting more capital, and fueling European tech dominance. Join us in advocating for change! Europe's Path to Innovation: Embracing Transformation and Overcoming Legacy Constraints In recent years, Europe has faced significant challenges in the global technological landscape. Despite its rich history of innovation and intellectual advancement, the continent has struggled to keep pace with the rapid evolution of technology, often finding itself in a position of dependency. Key Observations: Historical Dependence: European countries have historically been influenced by major tech giants from other regions, particularly the U.S. This dependency has sometimes led to a reactive rather than proactive stance in technology development. Innovation Constraints: The focus on maintaining traditional systems and compliance with existing structures has sometimes hindered Europe's ability to innovate at the same pace as its competitors. This has resulted in a perception of being a follower rather than a leader in the tech space. Current Efforts: Recent initiatives aim to address these challenges by fostering innovation ecosystems, increasing investment in technology startups, and promoting digital sovereignty. However, the effectiveness of these efforts in radically transforming Europe’s position remains to be seen. The Way Forward: To truly transform and become a leader in the global tech arena, Europe needs to focus on the following: Breaking Free from Legacy Systems: Europe must move beyond traditional frameworks and embrace new, disruptive technologies that can redefine its role in the global market. Fostering a Culture of Innovation: Encouraging a culture that prioritizes creativity, risk-taking, and entrepreneurial thinking is essential for driving forward-looking innovations. Promoting Technological Independence: Developing home-grown technologies and reducing dependency on external tech giants can help Europe regain its competitive edge and ensure digital sovereignty. Collaborating Globally: Engaging in international collaborations and partnerships can enhance Europe's technological capabilities and expand its influence in global tech discussions. Europe’s journey towards technological advancement requires a paradigm shift—moving from reactive adaptation to proactive innovation. By addressing these challenges and focusing on transformative strategies, Europe can aspire to not only catch up but also lead in the global technology landscape. Let’s discuss how these changes can drive Europe’s future and contribute to a more balanced global tech ecosystem. #Innovation #Technology #Europe #DigitalSovereignty #TechLeadership #FutureOfTech #GlobalCollaboration #TechTransformation #Entrepreneurship
