Celebrating Children's Day & JUWEDI’s Impact! On Children's Day, JUWEDI celebrates the incredible children we work with and the positive impact we've made together! As John Dewey, the American philosopher, said, "'Education is not preparation for life; education is life itself.'" At JUWEDI, we believe a fulfilling life requires nurturing both the mind and spirit. That's why our programs address the holistic needs of marginalized children. Empowering Children Through Education & Well-being: Education: Through our "Out of School" project, we've successfully reintegrated children back into the education system, equipping them with the skills to thrive. Hygiene & Well-being: We've tackled period stigma and ensured girls' continued education through hygiene workshops and sanitary pad distribution. Overcoming Challenges: During the pandemic, JUWEDI provided vital relief materials to rural schools, helping children return to classrooms and navigate disruptions. These are just a few examples of how JUWDI empowers children. We believe every child deserves the chance to learn, grow, and reach their full potential! Let's Champion Children Together! Children are the future, and investing in their well-being today secures a brighter tomorrow for all. Here are a few ways you can make a difference: Become a Mentor: Share your knowledge and experience with a child who could benefit from guidance. Volunteer Locally: Many organizations rely on volunteers to support children's education, healthcare, or extracurricular activities. Advocate for Change: Raise awareness about issues affecting children and support policies promoting their well-being. Remember, every action, big or small, has the power to create a brighter future for children. Join us in celebrating Children's Day and making a difference in the lives of children everywhere! #JUWEDI #ChildrensDay #EmpoweringChildren #Education #Wellbeing #HolisticSupport

Imagine a world where every child, regardless of their background, receives a fair start to life—a world where education isn't just a privilege but a fundamental right. In South Africa, this vision faces a critical challenge. According to the Oppenheimer Memorial Trust Education Research Report, only 55% of teachers can perform at Grade 4 level, highlighting a crisis in the education system. But we refuse to accept this status quo. At the Indaba Institute, we're pioneering change through our Community Rooted Education (CoRE) Programme—a seven-month course designed to empower women directly in their own communities. Why women? Because they are the backbone of our society, and investing in their education means investing in the future. I look forward to bringing you more life changing community moments as we scale. #IndabaInstitute #ECD #EmpoweringWomen
What an honour! To launch our transformative Community-Rooted Education (CoRE) in yet another community: Paarl, in the Drakenstein Municipality, Paarl, Western Cape! In the next 10 months, up to 35 x courageous women Early Childhood Development (ECD) teachers will work through our CoRE Programme, with our Indaba Institute trainers, who we call our "CoRE Facilitators". To be enabled, and empowered, to develop their skills and insights ... as they nurture our youngest children of tomorrow. We hope you will follow our journey, together! Tukee Nepal Society aims to expand educational opportunities for students, supporting both high school and university attendance. Currently, many students complete only primary school, as the cost of secondary and higher education is unaffordable for their families. To address this, Tukee Nepal Society is actively seeking sponsors to help students who have had to discontinue their education as well as those who have never been enrolled. This support will enable more children in Jyamrung and surrounding villages to access and complete their schooling in the near future. https://lnkd.in/dzmxRX86 #tukeenepalsamaaaj #tukeenepalsociety #volunteeringinnepal #volunteeringsociety

When I travelled through Eswatini (Swaziland), I saw children risking their lives just to get an education. They walked for miles along a busy highway, dodging cars whizzing by at 100 km/hr. Their clothes were dusty and worn, their school supplies carried in plastic bags. Yet, they seemed joyful. It made me realize just how privileged my son is: → He attends the best schools → He has a closet full of clothes → He never has to walk along dangerous roads In some parts of the world, children fight for basic rights we take for granted. Next time you're feeling down, remember: → You have safe transportation → You have access to quality education → You have choices in what you wear and eat Don't take your privilege for granted. Instead, ask yourself: → How can I use my advantages to help others? → What small action can I take today to make a difference? → How can I teach my children gratitude and social responsibility? We won't change the world overnight, but we can change one life at a time. What will you do this week to make a positive impact?

Every year on Children’s Day, we celebrate the joy, innocence and boundless potential of our young ones. Yet, beneath the surface of this celebration lies a harsh reality: while some children are joyfully heading to school, others are forced to forgo their childhood to work and support their families. This stark contrast in opportunity is a gap we can’t ignore. On this Children’s Day, let’s pledge to bridge this gap. Together, we can work to make a difference by contributing to causes that strive to make education accessible to every child. Education is more than just a tool—it’s a right, a promise for a brighter tomorrow and a steppingstone towards breaking the cycle of poverty. Every child deserves access to it. When we look at children who spend their days laboring instead of learning, we see lives limited by circumstances beyond their control. We see potential untapped, dreams deferred and futures compromised. Let’s stand together, so that no child is denied their right to dream, learn and thrive. This Children’s Day, join us in our mission to give every child the opportunity to experience the joy of learning. Let’s ensure that every child is in school, not at work. Happy Children’s Day!

🌙✨ Explaining Ramadan to Elementary / Primary School Students: Tips for Teachers 🌙✨ As we approach the holy month of Ramadan, it's an excellent opportunity to foster understanding and cultural awareness among our elementary students. Here are some tips on how to explain Ramadan in a sensitive and inclusive manner: Introduce the Concept of Ramadan: Begin by explaining that Ramadan is a special month for many people around the world, particularly those who follow the Islamic faith. Emphasize the significance of this month as a time for spiritual reflection, self-discipline, and empathy. Use Age-Appropriate Language: Tailor your language to suit the age group. Avoid using complex terms and opt for simple explanations that capture the essence of Ramadan. For example, you could describe it as a month of fasting, prayer, and kindness. Discuss Fasting: Clarify that fasting during Ramadan involves abstaining from food and drink during daylight hours. Emphasize that this practice is an important part of self-discipline, empathy for those less fortunate, and spiritual growth. Highlight the Importance of Charity: Teach students about the concept of Zakat, which is the act of giving to those in need. Explain that during Ramadan, many Muslims focus on helping others by donating to charity and engaging in acts of kindness. Explore Cultural & Family Traditions: Share stories and anecdotes that showcase the diverse cultural traditions associated with Ramadan. Discuss the special foods, festive decorations, and family customs that make this month unique. Address Questions and Curiosities: Create an open and welcoming environment for questions. Encourage students to ask about anything they find confusing or interesting about Ramadan. This promotes understanding and helps dispel misconceptions. Emphasize Inclusivity: Reinforce the idea that diversity is something to be celebrated. Encourage students to share their own cultural traditions and celebrations, fostering an environment of mutual respect and understanding. Engage in Creative Activities: Plan age-appropriate activities such as crafts, coloring, or writing exercises related to Ramadan. This hands-on approach helps students internalize the information in a fun and interactive way. Celebrate Diversity: Conclude your discussion by emphasizing the beauty of diversity and how understanding each other's traditions makes our classroom and community stronger. By incorporating these tips into your learning day, you're not only educating students about Ramadan but also promoting a culture of respect, empathy, and inclusivity within your classroom. Wishing you and your students a joyous and enlightening Ramadan season!

#AestheticLearningSpaces This was another inspiring talk at the INK Salon on early childhood education. Dattatrey Ware, or Ware Guru as he is known, presented brilliant examples of school transformation. What caught my attention most was how he involved students in deciding what kind of learning spaces they wanted. Not only does such agency boost the students' sense of ownership, but it also shows how critical aesthetic learning spaces are for student engagement and success. https://lnkd.in/gpZxZ2sg
#SchoolTransformation #EarlyChildhoodEducation #FoundationalEducation Dattatrey Ware, an educator who defies convention, has achieved a seemingly impossible feat: transforming underfunded, derelict government schools into world-class facilities. How? By empowering local communities, students, and civil society organizations to become co-owners of the educational transformation. In his inspiring talk at the recent INK Salon, Education that Uplifts, Dattatrey Ware shared his journey of going from village to village, creating life-changing opportunities through school education. No good deed goes unpunished, they say, and shares how he faced surprising backlash to his mission. But if there's one thing "Ware Guru" has in plenty, it is persistence. As week two of CEFI’s educational advocacy in Donga Mantung Division comes to a close, we’ve gained invaluable insights into the educational challenges plaguing the region. So far, we’ve engaged with 37% (740) of the 2,000 households we set out to reach, each household comprising an average of 5 people. Yet, Nkambe stands out, as its schools are overwhelmed by the influx of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) seeking education. Among the children we reached, 58% (429) were girls, 39% (288) were boys, and 3% (22) were persons living with disabilities. The barriers to education are distressingly clear: 67% (497) of children cited a lack of school fees, 21% (156) feared physical harm due to ongoing threats from armed groups enforcing school boycotts, 7% (52) struggled with catching up after prolonged absence, and 5% (37) expressed a desire to learn a trade instead of returning to school. Our advocacy efforts continue to shine a spotlight on these challenges, with a commitment to ensuring every child’s right to education is realized.
