Excited to share my insights from a recent #MKW3444 #FieldVisit! During my assignment, I had the opportunity to compare Watsons Malaysia stores with their headquarters in Hong Kong (Watsons Hong Kong; AS Watson). Visiting a Watson's store in Malaysia firsthand allowed me to gather valuable visual information and experience the store environment. Based on my observations, I created a comprehensive poster outlining my findings. It was fascinating to see how the stores are both similar yet different in each country, reflecting local preferences and cultural nuances. From product assortment to pricing strategies and customer service, each store tailored its approach to resonate with its respective market. Check out my attached poster for a comparative analysis of Watson's stores in Malaysia and Hong Kong. Stay tuned for more insights and discoveries! #Watsons #MarketComparison #RetailStrategy #InternationalMarketing 🌍💡

⚔️ Clash of the Supermarkets Following up on my recent visit to Fairprice @ Clarke Quay, I'm intrigued to uncover Singapore's most frequented supermarket and the reasons behind its popularity. Grocery shopping seems to be a beloved pastime in Singapore. Any violent objections? 😉 With a plethora of options ranging from mass-market to premium, Singapore boasts over 30 supermarkets of diverse sizes and formats. However, let's narrow our scope and delve into the larger contenders. 📊 Let's take a poll (open to anyone who's residing in Singapore or familiar with the local supermarket scene). In no particular order, 𝓦𝐡𝐢𝐜𝐡 𝐦𝐚𝐣𝐨𝐫 𝐬𝐮𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐤𝐞𝐭 𝐢𝐧 𝐒𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐚𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐝𝐨 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐯𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐦𝐨𝐬𝐭? 𝐀𝐧𝐝 𝐰𝐡𝐲? 1. NTUC FairPrice (incl Fairprice Finest & Xtra) 2. Cold Storage & CS Fresh 3, Sheng Siong 4. #fieldtrip #MKW3444 During my recent field visit to Miniso Malaysia, I had the opportunity to explore the application of the marketing mix, particularly focusing on the 4Ps: product, price, place, and promotion. Observing Miniso's product range, which emphasizes simplicity, quality, and affordability, highlighted the importance of product differentiation and customer-centric offerings in attracting target consumers. Additionally, analyzing Miniso's pricing strategies, such as offering competitive prices for high-quality products, underscored the significance of pricing in influencing consumer perceptions and purchase decisions. Furthermore, examining Miniso's store locations and layout, as well as promotional activities such as in-store displays, provided insights into the role of place and promotion in enhancing brand visibility and driving foot traffic. Overall, the field visit to Miniso Malaysia deepened my understanding of how effective implementation of the 4Ps contributes to the success of retail businesses in capturing market share and satisfying consumer needs.

What do store openings of Sam's Club in Hong Kong, 7-Eleven's 7Café in Malaysia and SPAR supermarkets opening in China and Kyrgyzstan have in common? Spending my 1 year IGD (Institute of Grocery Distribution) anniversary in Manila airport, waiting for a delayed flight, reflecting on the past few days of what has been a successful research trip. Sabrina Wong and I spent a lot of our first day visiting different SM Retail stores and here are a few things that stood out to me: 💰 VIP checkout lane for the highest spending customers coined 'prestige' members, with a prestige lounge for them in department stores. I like this aspect of rewarding loyal customers and giving them some exclusive benefits (in lieu of personalised coupons/vouchers we come to expect from European loyalty schemes) 🍲 Strong foodservice proposition in the SM Hypermarket in SM Mall of Asia: around 20+ vendors, a seating area and a bakery with freshly baked goods 👍 SM Supermarket in Makati providing inspiration for shoppers with cooking demonstration videos on digital screens. However, there is an opportunity for more strategic positioning of these screens, to encourage purchasing of key ingredients, not to mention the opportunity for suppliers to promote their products as part of the recipe (which I didn't see happening) 🥛Shrinkage measures in place by storing Premium Milk in a separate area which is guarded by security We also managed to see the newly opened Watsons store in SM Mall of Asia, which was very impressive: ☀ From the get go, it was very inviting with bright lights, colourful displays and a big digital screen playing a video as soon as you enter 💳 It was the only store we saw during our whole visit in Manila with self-checkout; there were digital screens playing videos on how to do this 🙂 'Analyze your skin' machines - it felt novel to see in this market, and I assume it would gain a lot of attention by shoppers wanting to try something new (although it wasn't actually in use while we were there) ⏳ Express click & collect in 30 minutes 📹 A digital screen showed a video on how to download and use the Watsons Club app... strong promotion of retailers' apps in stores was massively missing, so this execution highlighted just how Watsons are trying to drive engagement with the app Thank you Aaron Vincent Co for spending the day visiting stores with us and introducing us to some very tasty Filipino dishes! #retailanalysis #retail #groceryretail #igd #manila #philippines #smretail

I just finished a deep dive into Uniqlo's market entry strategy in Malaysia, and it's fascinating to see how they've tailored their approach to truly resonate with local consumers. From adapting product lines like AIRism to suit the tropical climate, to implementing a competitive pricing strategy with frequent limited-time offers, Uniqlo has effectively differentiated itself in the Malaysian market, especially with winning the heart of Malaysian customers. The most important takeaway that I get from this field visit is that success in a new market isn't just about selling products, it's about understanding and adapting to the local culture, preferences, and behaviors. #MKW3444 #FieldVisit

In today's news article, Datuk Paul Khong, analyzes how cautious consumer spending habits in Kuala Lumpur are affecting shopping malls. It highlights that despite the rising supply of retail spaces, retailers and malls are facing challenges with lower footfall and reduced spending. Therefore, the future of retail depends on adapting and enhancing the consumer journey.
