🌍 MOI Global Annual Dinner in Madrid 🇪🇸 On September 12th, I co-hosted the MOI Global annual #dinner in #Madrid with my friend Alirio from Invexcel. This event is reserved for those of us who not only share a passion for #ValueInvesting but also have a serious and professional approach to managing funds and portfolios. 🔑 At MOI Global, the value lies not only in the exclusivity of being part of this group, but in the open and honest exchange of ideas. Every conversation goes beyond theory, enriched by the real-world experiences of each member. 🏃♂️ "Investing isn’t a sprint, it’s a lifelong journey." We learn continuously, sharing both successes and mistakes, with the goal of improving our decisions. We all manage capital for our investors and for ourselves, and this exchange enriches us. 👥 The dinner is just the beginning: we continue to build a committed #community, where discussions don’t end that night but extend over time. Here, relationships are not only formed on a professional level, but also on a personal one, creating bonds that go beyond the realm of investing. We support each other and grow together, both as investors and as individuals. 🍽️ We enjoyed the evening in an exceptional gastronomic setting, but the most important part was the opportunity to share with colleagues who, like me, are always looking for ways to add value. Thanks to everyone who participated and shared their experiences: Pedro Gutiérrez, Francisco Lopez, Carlos Küster, Eugenio Saldana, Javier López, Alirio Sendrea, CFA. 👌 Special thanks to Ezra Crangle and John Mihaljevic for your support as well. See you at the next edition! #investmentcommunity #longterminvesting #lifelonglearner #givers #addingvalue #richconversations #longtermmindset

** Throwback Thursday ** Let's take a look at our many conferences over the years. We organized one in 2018 and six in 2022 - thanks to the support of our members and growing CAASA team! Today we look at our first/second Private Equity & Venture Capital Assembly - I give the option as we had our Afternoon of Alternatives in 2019 and added a great deal of content to arrive at our PEVCA in 2020. Of course, this was offered virtually only and we offered Table Talks over the 2 days as well as some pretty unbelievable speakers and panelists. Attracting many delegates and sponsors (especially investors!), it illustrated to us the importance of this area on investment to investors and how it supports the Canadian economy directly - since many of the companies invested in are Canadian start-ups or substantial going concerns. Our little virtual drinks session probably helped a bit also. You can view the program here: https://lnkd.in/gU-BXaX8 All of our publications are available here: https://lnkd.in/gTwUCzPP We would like to note that at all of our conferences we strive for a 40% investors, 40% managers, and 20% service provider attendee break-down and have achieved this in virtually all cases. This, we believe, is a golden ratio that provides value to all attendees. We also like to keep our conferences smaller (200-250 max) and would only increase delegate maximums if we have the requisite (40%+) block of investors already registered. We're in this for the long-haul and for member value!

Today we look at the 2021 edition of our Private Equity & Venture Capital Assembly - once again in virtual mode but with the crop of great speakers and subjects that delegates have come to expect from us. At this point, after nine online conference, we wondered if we’d ever be able to meet in a big room together as before…but the dust was sort of settling on COVID (until Omicron reared its head) so we had hope of meeting once more. In the meantime, many noted they loved the sessions presented and some even liked the online format! Thank you, Raoul Felix Maier, for inviting me to participate in a fireside chat at the Eudemian European Summit 2024 at the beautiful Villa Habsburg in Pöcking. It was an honor to share my insights on the current state of the PE market. A special thank you to Ekkehard Franzke for moderating the discussion. Key points I highlighted include: - Rising Realizations: Realizations are increasing globally. - Germany’s Market Potential: Despite current challenges, over 50% of investors plan to increase their allocations in Germany, with more than 80% viewing it as an attractive market. While some older industries struggle, Germany remains the world’s third-largest market for software. - Concentrated Dry Powder: Top-tier funds (9%) have raised 62% of the total volume. - Capital Overhang Disparity: Large-cap invested capital has grown by 70%, with fundraising increasing 15 times, compared to small/mid-cap where invested capital has grown by 260%, and fundraising by 230%. This has led to valuation discounts for small/mid-cap buyouts compared to large-cap buyouts, increasing from 3-4x to 6-7x. - Importance of Diversification: - Single company investments have a 30% chance of total loss (0x MOIC). - Single fund investments have a 21% chance of losing money (<1x MOIC). - Fund of funds investments have a 0% probability of losing money (<1x MOIC). - A diversified portfolio can provide a 15-20% uplift compared to a highly correlated portfolio. It was also wonderful to reconnect with Dr. Sepita Ansari and engage in many enriching conversations with other attendees such as Arved Graf von Stackelberg, Sebastian Alexander Maciejewski, Laura Herrmann, Dr. Timo Gerrit Blenk, Eberhard Weiblen and countless others. #privateequity
