🌊 A throwback to the Vartry Water Supply Scheme, a remarkable engineering achievement that continues to serve as a lifeline for over 200,000 people in north Wicklow and South Dublin. Originally developed in the 1860s, this historic scheme transformed sanitation in Dublin City, significantly reducing the risk of diseases caused by contaminated water. The original structure features two reservoirs, a water treatment plant, and a four-kilometre tunnel, all built by hand with basic tools. Fast forward to recent developments: Uisce Éireann invested €150 million to upgrade the scheme, ensuring compliance with EU water quality standards. The completion of a new pipeline from Vartry to Callowhill in 2018 replaced a vulnerable rock-lined tunnel, reinforcing the water supply for generations to come. Our highly skilled teams from Specialist Engineering and Monitoring, provided vibration monitoring solutions to support the upgrade works. Curious to learn more about this project? Sure, it’s no theme park but this week gases will ride 💨 Our Central Interceptor crews are installing the final giant white pipes onto a yellow steel frame that make up a new air treatment filter plant. We’re a fan ‘cos the 100kg per metre fibreglass pipes will connect to giant header fans that draw harmful gases from the Central Interceptor tunnel and send them to an odour treatment bed where natural microorganisms will break them down. This is the project’s largest air treatment facility. In fact, our team has just finished installing its mate at our May Road site in Mt Roskill, halfway along the 16.2-kilometre tunnel route. So, why are they doing this? 👉 The pressure in the tunnel will change constantly depending on the volume of combined wastewater and stormwater flowing through it, so this will help keep things on an even keel, while pump stations dotted along the tunnel route will also do their bit to remove gases. While the new air filter treatment plant may not be a theme park, we’d queue for a peek at this mahi 👀 For more on the project to build New Zealand's largest bored wastewater tunnel 👉 https://lnkd.in/gaRqgq6i Ghella Abergeldie Joint Venture (GAJV) #CentralInterceptor #projects #wastewater #stormwater #tunnelling #tunneling #tunnels #underground #OnTheTools #infrastructure #construction #Teamwork #team #mahi #Auckland

𝐂𝐨𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐲 𝐄𝐧𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐬 𝐖𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐈𝐧𝐟𝐫𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐌𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐨𝐰 Coffey is making significant progress on the construction of a new water storage reservoir in Mallow, County Cork, on behalf of Uisce Éireann Irish Water. This significant project is part of a broader initiative to improve water infrastructure across the region, ensuring a reliable and sustainable water supply for residents and businesses. The Mallow reservoir, with a capacity of 4,000 cubic metres, will be a valuable addition to the existing water supply network. This increased capacity will help meet the growing demand for water in the area, particularly during peak usage periods. To guarantee the safety and quality of the water stored in the reservoir, a water disinfection system will be integrated into the project. This system will ensure that the water is treated to the highest standards, protecting public health and safeguarding the environment. In addition to the reservoir itself, the project will include the construction of new pipelines, electrical upgrades, footpaths, and other essential infrastructure to support the reservoir and enhance the overall water supply system in Mallow. These improvements will improve water delivery and contribute to the overall development and well-being of the community. Upon completion, the Mallow reservoir will play a crucial role in providing a reliable and sustainable water supply to the local community. This investment in water infrastructure will benefit both residents and businesses, supporting economic growth and improving quality of life in the region. #Coffey #Waterinfrastructure #Civilengineering

Tanner Pacific, Inc. is currently providing construction Management and inspection services for Pajaro Valley Water Management Agency’s (PV Water) $68M College Lake Project. This project has three distinct interdependent system elements: the Weir Structure and Intake Pump Station, Water Treatment Plant, and College Lake Pipeline. This project provides PV Water with the ability to better manage and protect the largest only source of surface water to help reduce challenges associated with long-term groundwater overdraft, seawater intrusion, land subsidence, and water quality degradation. Last month, our team joined Lower Cape Fear Water and Sewer Authority (LCFWASA) for the groundbreaking of a major infrastructure project aimed at enhancing the reliability and capacity of its raw water transmission system. The second phase of a new 54-inch raw water transmission main spans approximately seven miles and will parallel the existing 48-inch main, which supplies Pender County, Cape Fear Public Utility Authority (CFPUA), and several industries along US Highway 4211. 📅 𝐍𝐞𝐰 𝐁𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐀𝐩𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐝 𝐃𝐞𝐬𝐩𝐢𝐭𝐞 𝐅𝐢𝐫𝐞 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐬 In Slimbridge, plans for a new 36-megawatt battery storage power station and a 132kV transformer have been approved, despite objections from local organizations and concerns about fire safety and traffic. The development, slated for land near Kingston Road, faced opposition from the Wildlife and Wetland Trust and Slimbridge Parish Council. They raised fears that a fire at the facility could release toxic fumes, posing a risk to the area's 3,500 daily visitors. Concerns were also raised about the already significant traffic in the area, exacerbated by the proximity of popular tourist attractions and residential areas. Developers, Relay Slimbridge Ltd, assured Stroud District Council that thorough safety measures, including a robust ecological assessment and an evacuation plan developed with fire experts, were in place. They emphasized that similar installations across the UK had a good safety record, with minimal incidents. Despite these concerns, the council's development control committee voted 10-0 in favor of the plans, with two abstentions. The decision allows the project to proceed, covering approximately two acres within an eight-acre site. The approval underscores a balancing act between energy infrastructure expansion and local environmental and safety concerns, highlighting the complexities involved in such developments. #Battery #Europe #Fire #BatteryPlant #Safety #Environment #Energy
