😱 Woah, it's finally come around..You Me Bum Bum Train 2024 is live 🎇 This is the 3rd round of You Me Bum Bum Train I've contributed to, each time getting more and more involved in the behind-the-scenes in small ways to make this community-driven, fever dream, immersive rollercoaster train journey happen. The last show was 8 years ago, and it only runs for ~6 weeks, so it's truly a scarce and precious experience. The last 6 months have been unbelievable amounts of fun. Is it weird? ✅ Is it hard to describe? ✅ Is it chaotic? ✅ Is it a bottomless pit of joy and love? ✅ Tickets went for it almost immediately, but the shows run ~3 times a week between now and the end of Jan, and we are always looking for more volunteers to get involved. As cast members, welfare support, dinner lads/ladies, DIY-ers and handy people, and general helpers (aka Game Ants 🐜 )... and more! What's it like inside a mascot suit? It's hot. It's sweaty. And most importantly, inspiring. Our dedicated Joey performer Stephanie O'Neil knows this well, performing as our favorite Can-Do Kangaroo at so many of our games, special events, and other community functions. The hugs and high-fives make all of the perspiration worth it. Stephanie and all of our mascot performers are changing lives for the better with every interaction. How do you feel about Secret Pals at work? Secret Pals are when someone you don't know is providing gifts and encouraging notes. While my experience with Secret Pals was less than stellar, I support Secret Pals provided that there is an option to Opt Out. Many women on the Track and Cross Country Teams and the Mayfest Dance performers at Pacific Lutheran University absolutely loved the Secret Pals Program. My less than stellar experiences were: (1) being stiffed by my Secret Pal when I went to great lengths including spending a lot of money on gifts for my Secret Pal; (2) giving a bunch of chocolate to my Secret Pal only to find out that she doesn't like chocolate; and (3) spending a lot of time shopping, buying gifts, and filling out cards that kept me up most of the night. Specifically the Mayfest Dancers Olsen Week preparing for final performance with six-hour rehearsals every day that week and a comparable demanding schedule with the track team left little time for Secret Pals.
