We may only be a few weeks into Spring but Summer has already begun for our Crowd Safety team. From now till August, the SGC Security Services calendar is packed full of events ranging from concerts to rugby to football to festivals to horse racing! Many of the events we will be providing crowd safety security services to are annual occurrences that we feel honoured to be a part of year after year. Such events include: •'Newmarket Nights' at Newmarket Racecourse, along with many race days •Epsom Derby at Epsom Racecourse where attendance is expected to exceed 40,000 •Totfest, in both Yorkshire and Hertfordshire And many more!!! Meanwhile, brand new for this year, SGC will now be providing security services at Warwick Castle for multiple concert nights in July! I'm a member of the the Golf Power Poll panel and this month the questions were about money in golf. One of the questions was concerning whether the vast amount of money 🤑 currently in professional golf is having an adverse effect on fans' interest - i.e., are fans actually turning off as purses astronomically increase? In my case, yes. And, according to the Power Poll results I am not alone in this opinion. Personally, I am less than excited about the 'Signature' events - a few are fine, but 8 is way too many - especially in this schedule shorten #Olympic year. Nick Dunlap winning twice on the PGA TOUR - once as an amateur - emphasizes the fact that ANYONE in the field can win and I (along with the players ranked 51-125/150) would like to see the return to more full field events - WITH more of the Top 50 in those fields. Or as a compromise to the 'elephant in the room' as the only time that LIV's top players now play against PGA TOUR & DP World Tour is the Majors – take 4 of those 8 Signature events and have 1/2 the field be LIV Golf players and half PGA Tour/ DP World Tour players with full OGWR points & the same purses (with the Public Investment Fund (PIF) contributing) so there starts to be some true relevance on who the best players actually are. Just a thought - Golf is truly a global game played by millions who love it - let's embrace and celebrate it, instead of fighting amongst the professional elite. The race has a blend of prestige, tight tracks, and iconic moments. However, it stands in a paradoxical situation; while its legacy has cemented its place on the calendar, there is an increasing question of the very limited overtaking opportunities and soaring costs.
