🔴 Demanding Justice: Over 40 Organizations Call for Accountability for Houthi Human Rights Violations 🔴 In an unprecedented show of unity, more than 40 Yemeni Civil Society Organizations including #justice4Yemen coalition have issued a powerful statement demanding immediate and decisive action from the international community to address the Houthi group's escalating human rights abuses in Yemen. This collective statement underscores the urgency of the situation, detailing the Houthi group's continued and severe #violations, including: - Deliberate targeting of civilians, including vulnerable women and children. - Systematic obstruction of humanitarian aid, worsening the humanitarian crisis. - Severe repression of fundamental freedoms, particularly freedom of speech and expression. The civil society calls on the global community to impose targeted sanctions and pursue justice through international legal mechanisms. Arbitrary arrests and enforced disappearances in Yemen “have created an environment of fear and impunity where people are too scared to speak out or participate in politics in a country fractured by so many years of war,” Afrah Nasser writes. This side event aims to shed light on the severe human rights violations stemming from Sudan’s ongoing conflict. We will address issues such as arbitrary arrests, forced disappearance, death in dedication canters of the warring parties, refugee situations, unfair trials, and the political misuse of judicial processes, including the role of special courts established since the conflict erupted on April 15, 2023. The event will feature expert panelists, including legal professionals, human rights defenders, and Sudanese civil society actors. They will share their experiences and propose practical solutions to safeguard fair trial rights and enhance judicial independence in Sudan. The side event will take place on the 16th October 2024 at the Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara International Conference Centre, from 2:00 PM – 4:30 PM, GMT.
