#Libya: New UN report points to the renewed violence and repeated violations that have resulted from the failure to deliver justice in Turhana, which itself emphasises the importance of accountability in Libya. “Years have passed since these terrible violations were committed [in Turhana], but the perpetrators have still not been brought to justice, nor have truth, justice or reparations been delivered to victims and their families,” said UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk. “The impunity must end – there must be accountability in accordance with international due process and fair trial standards.” https://lnkd.in/emPVxD2N #torture #enforceddisappearance

🌍 OIPMA addresses the 57th Human Rights Council, calling attention to the devastating atrocities in #Sudan, some of which may amount to war crimes and crimes against humanity. A sustainable ceasefire is essential, but lasting peace demands addressing deeper issues, including the destabilizing influence of the Muslim Brotherhood, which exacerbates sectarian tensions and fuels regional instability. OIPMA urges the international community to confront these root causes and adopt a comprehensive approach to transitional justice in Sudan. Arbitrary arrests and enforced disappearances in Yemen “have created an environment of fear and impunity where people are too scared to speak out or participate in politics in a country fractured by so many years of war,” Afrah Nasser writes. "The Houthis are using arbitrary detentions and enforced disappearances as a political tool at a time when the people living in their territories lack even the most basic needs," Niku Jafarnia of Human Rights Watch told Nasser. More from Afrah Nasser, in DAWN's Democracy in Exile, on arbitrary arrests and enforced disappearances in Yemen:

The Ethiopian Council of Ministers has unanimously approved the draft Transitional Justice Policy. The policy, effective immediately upon approval, aims to address a wide range of victims of human rights violations, conflicts, and abuses in the country. Previous attempts lacked a lasting solution, but this new policy is described as an inclusive humanitarian strategy based on mercy, justice, and transparent policies. I am thrilled about the opportunities this brings for healing and reconciliation in Ethiopia. 🕊️ #TransitionalJustice #Ethiopia #HumanRights #Healing #Reconciliation

🆘Civilians have overwhelmingly borne the impact of the armed conflict in Sudan. 🚫Instead of mitigating the humanitarian catastrophe, our report shows that both warring parties have exploited the conflict to target civilians, arbitrarily detaining and torturing marginalised groups. 🛑 What can States do to prevent further suffering? 📖Read our report with ACCESS, the Darfur Network for Human Rights and the SOAS Centre for Human Rights Law for recommendations on how all parties involved can take steps to end the systematic campaigns of violence against civilians in Sudan:https://lght.ly/1m5gm0g #SudanHumanRights #JusticeForSudan #EndArbitraryDetention

Agnes Callamard, Secretary General of Amnesty International: - “After more than four months of conflict, Israel’s campaign of retaliation against Hamas has been characterized by a pattern of war crimes and violations of international law.” - “Israel forcibly displaced Palestinians, imposing conditions that have left hundreds of thousands without basic human necessities. It has carried out indiscriminate, disproportionate, and direct attacks on civilians and “civilian objects,” such as schools and hospitals.” - “Today’s diplomatic complicity in the catastrophic human rights and humanitarian crisis in Gaza is the culmination of years of erosion of the international rule of law and global human rights system.” - “Israel’s massive bombardment of Gaza has roots that go deeper in history than the long running “war on terror,” including the 1948 expulsion of roughly 750,000 Palestinians from their homes, which came to be known as the nakba, or catastrophe.” Read on.
