QFCC Youth Advocate Judas reflects on a pivotal moment, when they realised their mental health was different from others'. ‘Realising that you don’t think like everybody else is like going to another person's house for the first time as a kid. It’s confusing and uncomfortable when you discover that the way your family does things is not the way everyone else does—the way that you have dinner, and clean and stack your shoes is different.’ We need to listen to young people with lived experience of the mental health system and include their views when considering how to improve services. 🔗Read the full post here: https://lnkd.in/gjcVrdzb #QFCC #AmplifyBlog

🌿 May is Mental Health Awareness Month. Did you know that adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) report mental distress nearly five times more often than adults without disabilities? Yet, the best methods to support their mental health needs remain underexplored. This group can face a variety of psychiatric disorders, but too often, these symptoms are overlooked or misattributed to their disabilities—a phenomenon known as "diagnostic overshadowing." At New Danville, we're committed to changing this narrative. Our programs are designed to have a profound positive impact on the mental health of our Wranglers, recognizing and addressing their unique challenges with the care and attention they deserve. Let’s shine a light on mental health for everyone, especially those often overlooked. 💚🧠 #MentalHealthAwareness #SupportIDD #NewDanvilleImpact

Supporting Our First Responders Tackle Their Mental Health Together. From long hours of work in emergency services, we understand there to be a psychological toll taken upon our heroic first responders. Recent studies put a finger on some concerning trends in the mental health of these vital community servants. Rates of depression and PTSD for first responders is well above those of the general population, with up to 30% of personnel affected. Our commitment must extend beyond acknowledging these challenges. We need to come up with human solutions that help humans who face adversity every day gain the tools not just to survive but to flourish. We need programs that will increase access to mental health resources and encourage an environment in which seeking help is seen as valor, not stigmatism. We could save those who save us. Your thoughts? #MentalHealthAwareness #FirstResponder #CommunityCare #mindfulness

Attending Voices for GA's Children Child Advocacy Leadership Lab event on "Beyond the Hardware: Keeping Kids Safe at School and Elsewhere," was fertile ground in advancing mental health on behalf of GA's youth. One of my greatest strengths as a mental health professional has been a superior ability to quickly recognize gaps or deficiencies in systems that cause them not to work as desired/intended, and the issue is typically rooted in there not being a clearly defined macro goal that everyone is working toward. For GA - like everywhere else in the world - creating a comprehensive in-school and community-based system that supports the rehabilitation & resiliency of GA's children is the answer. Sadly, 40% of GA's youth will experience 1+ ACEs before the age of 18. Failure to adequately heal this trauma increases not only their risk for chronic health conditions, unemployment, and social problems, but also ensures the next generation of Georgians will govern our societies from an unhealthy place. With our world already on fire, this is an alarm that we all have to be responsive to. #mentalhealth #georgiayouth #atlantapublicschools #schoolmentalhealth #fultoncountyschools #gwinnettcountyschools #georgiapublicschools #georgiacharterschools #dekalbcountyschools #cobbcountyschools #claytoncountyschools #RESAs #georgiaresas
This past Wednesday, we had the privilege of attending Voices for Georgia’s Children’s GA-CALL panel discussion. The discussion was another reminder of the challenges so many young people face every day. Anxiety, depression, stress, and trauma don’t wait until after school hours. This is why our School Mental Health Program was created! Accessible in-school mental health services are not a luxury—they’re a necessity. Let’s normalize asking for help and prioritize mental health as much as we do grades and test scores. #t2scares #MentalHealthMatters #InSchoolSupport #AdvocacyForChange #MentalHealthAwareness
