AUTHORITIES in Nyimba, Eastern Province, have observed an exponential reduction in charcoal production in the area due to carbon credits and trading. Nyimba District Commissioner Paul Daka said the district has over the last few years continued to record a decline in charcoal production. Mr Daka attributed the decline to change of mindset of the locals towards charcoal production as a result of sensitisations being carried out by stakeholders on the need to protect and conserve forests. He noted that there is reduced charcoal production in the district and that no charcoal gets transported or smuggled from #Nyimba to #Lusaka following the introduction of a checkpoint near Luangwa Bridge.

Increase in company costs tied to theft, poor infrastructure, and high operational expenses Increased operational and material costs, theft of company assets such as fuel, and poor road conditions and flooding have been identified as contributing factors to an overall rise in costs faced by companies. Despite receiving limited assistance from the Department of Works, companies have had to endure these high costs. Ramu Agri Industries currently maintain the main highways in the Ramu, Gusap and Dumpu corridor, ensuring that production can continue and vehicle maintenance costs are reduced. Industry figures have called for better infrastructure and increased police presence and community awareness for security. A 2018-2019 review found sugar, an important input in the diet of most urban and semi-urban communities, consumes a considerable portion of an average Papua New Guinean's household budget. #PNG #Leafsplash

The memorandum urges the government to consider its proposal to raise the paddy floor price from RM1,300 per tonne to RM1,800. PeSAWAH chairman Abdul Rashid Yob said that the proposal reflects the urgent needs of paddy farmers across the nation. The memorandum also included PeSAWAH’s objection to the proposed Crop Seed Quality Bill, and called on the government to consider shelving it. 🛠 Boundary Installation Around Elevator 1 to Prevent Paddy Waste In the Parboiling section at AKIJ Essential (Rice Unit), paddy wastage was a recurring issue whenever the elevator jammed. Good paddy would fall and get wet due to parboiling water, leading to unnecessary losses. To address this, Mr. Hafiz initiated the installation of a protective boundary around Elevator 1, ensuring that no paddy is wasted due to water exposure. A special thanks to Mahabub Hossan Mithu, Ripon Hosen, Md Kamruzzaman Sohag and everyone involved in implementing this effective solution! #WasteReduction #ProcessEfficiency #OperationalExcellence #Kaizen
