CELEBRATING AFRICAN DAY 2024 Today, as we celebrate African Day, we come together to recognize the resilience, diversity, and boundless potential of our continent. This annual observance serves as a poignant reminder of the transformative journey Africa has embarked upon, overcoming the legacies of colonialism and charting a course towards a future of self-determination, prosperity, and unity. As an energy professional deeply committed to the cause of energy sustainability in the East African community, I am filled with a sense of hope and optimism. Over the past decade, we have witnessed a surge of innovation and investment in renewable energy projects across the region. This has been greatly enabled by the tireless efforts of the East African Centre of Excellence for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (EACREEE) which has played a pivotal role in promoting and advancing renewable energy and energy efficiency solutions. Through their policy advocacy, capacity building initiatives and facilitation of public-private partnerships, EACREEE has been instrumental in creating an environment for the renewable energy transition and energy efficiency practices in the East African Community. Solar, wind, geothermal, and hydropower installations are springing up in countries large and small, providing clean, affordable, and reliable electricity to millions who previously lacked access. This shift towards energy independence and security not only power economic growth, but also represent a critical step in addressing the global climate crisis. Yet, we know that our work is far from finished. Barriers to energy access and grid integration remain, especially in remote and underserved communities. Grid infrastructure requires upgrades and expansion. Policy frameworks must be strengthened to incentivize further investment. And we must continue to develop local technical expertise to ensure the long-term sustainability of these projects. On this African Day, I call upon all stakeholders - governments, private sector, civil society, and development partners - to recommit ourselves to the vision of an Africa powered by clean, affordable, and reliable energy making universal energy access a reality. Let us forge new collaborations, share best practices, and leverage our collective knowledge and resources to overcome the challenges that lie ahead. Together, with the continued support and leadership of African Union and the regional institutions such as EACREEE, I am confident that we can build a future of energy independence that empowers communities, drives economic progress, and leaves a lasting, positive impact on our continent. Wishing you all a meaningful and productive African Day.

🚢 How can Denmark and North America collaborate on developing a green maritime and port industry? This was the main topic during yesterday's panel discussion on our Green Maritime & Port Alliance at the 2024 Port of the Future Conference in Houston. For a full hour, the conference's main stage was dedicated to discussing the Green Maritime & Port Alliance. Joined by Jesper Raakjær of Port of Aalborg and Vesa Koivumaa of Blue Sky Maritime Coalition, our Head of Energy, Morten Siem Lynge, shared challenges with decarbonizing the sector and the pivotal role that ports play in the global maritime industry's energy transition. Ports serve as central load centers between land and sea, possessing the infrastructure and grid connectivity to serve as hubs for green power generation, storage, and distribution. However, unlocking ports' full potential requires public and private collaboration across borders. As leading maritime nations, Denmark and the US share a common commitment to accelerate the green transition of ports. And so, the Green Maritime & Port Alliance seeks to facilitate knowledge-sharing and partnership opportunities between Danish and American maritime companies and ports to create sustainable solutions to joint challenges. By exchanging Danish learnings and solutions with the North American industry during yesterday's panel discussion, we are hopefully one step closer to achieving just that 🤝 If you want to learn more about market opportunities in the global maritime energy transition, do not hesitate to reach out to our Advisor Emil Andersen, or learn more about our Green Maritime & Port Alliance here 👉 https://lnkd.in/d_UEc3Sy #greenshipping #greenmaritime #DenmarkinUSA #WorkingforDenmark
