Just off the Better Justice Partnership workshop on policy influencing priorities and strategy for the criminal justice system representing Catch22. I am feeling more curious about the incredible work that’s being done by our partners across the sector and ambitious about what we can achieve despite the political and communication challenges we are facing. One thought I keep on returning to is that as criminal justice sector our policy suggestions must be rooted in evidence and experience but our communication of these issues must tailored to our audience (and our audience is not our policy peers!) - the politicians, the public that elect them and the media landscape that nourishes or poisons both. This is why I am glad this partnership exists, the research they have already conducted with Gemma Buckland and Tom O’Grady on policy communication is absolutely vital and needs to inform our strategy carefully. The public is more open minded that we give them credit, as long as we put in the work to take them with us on our conclusions.
