🔎 At Laketricity, we're deeply committed to preserving the surroundings in which we develop our projects. Indeed, landscape integration is a very important topic during the project development phase. ✅ Half of you answered that we conduct environmental studies, but actually this is not the only right answer. The other 50% of you answered "other" to indicate that all the answers are in fact correct. Indeed, when we develop a floating solar project, we : 👷♀️ Work with landscape consultants, 🔬 Conduct environmental studies, 📏 Adjust the FPV plant's coverage rate with a respectful design, 🌾 Recommend landscape integration measures. Lessons from a 6th Grader: I might be the adult in my household, but that doesn't mean I cannot learn from my kids. Here is something I recently learned from watching my son tackle a science project on renewable energy. The Assignment: Create a video commercial about one form of renewable energy The Lesson Learned: When given a task to complete (whether for work or school), you can either choose to take the easy path and just get the job done, or you can choose to insert creativity, sacrifice more time, and put your all into a project. The Final Result: My son created a 1-minute long commercial, parodying the silliness in most cologne/perfume commercials to advertise the 1st ever solar-powered cologne. My son could have made a simple video and called the assignment done. But he chose to make this hysterical, laugh-riot instead. During the #maternityleave for my first kid in 2022, I got teased by my friends for being ‘such a #nerd’ and spending the (little!) free time I had watching videos and reading stuff about technical topics that I did not have a chance to look into during my regular working routine (…instead of binge watching Netflix series, which is what they would have expected 🤣) At that time, I was trying to learn more about sustainable practices in a laboratory environment and trying to gain some fundamentals in agronomy. It was fun to learn something new during those lonely days…but it also turned out to be very helpful when I went back to work, and I could implement some of those learnings into my job! This time, my maternity leave is not characterized by much free time, because - guess what - it’s my second kid so there are two of them to take care of 👶👦🤦♀️ But I am still trying to take the opportunity to learn something new once in a while. The ones who are closest to me, know that I have been nerding around trying to understand the hype behind #agrivoltaics, #smallmodularreactors, #hydrogenpipelines etc… In this scattered but consistent journey into my #cleantech mummy #education, I found one resource which is entertaining me quite a lot and I feel it deserves kudos also on this platform: it’s the #engineeringwithrosie YouTube channel curated by Rosemary Barnes: https://lnkd.in/dKzymyTt I watched a few videos about topics I was familiar with, just to test the waters and do a sort of ‘quality’ check, and then a few videos about stuff I did not know at all (such as the one I am linking below)…and I find it both very educational and entertaining. How can artificial lakes and water bodies drive renewable energy solutions? A research project on Saxony’s Mortkasee lake is exploring floating solar technology to maximize energy production while preserving aquatic ecosystems. Led by RWE, Fraunhofer-Institut für Solare Energiesysteme ISE, and Brandenburgische Technische Universität Cottbus-Senftenberg, this initiative involves three floating solar arrays, each generating 30 kW. It is supported by Germany’s Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Action, and is aimed to inform scalable applications worldwide. As we live through a new era of higher interest rates and inflation (or is it greedflation?) saving energy is a lot more valued. Commercial buildings contribute about 10% of Australia’s domestic emissions. The need to step up and contribute more savings towards Australia’s 43% goal by 2030 must be front of mind for government, business and institutions. This journey starts today. There are many opportunities to cut energy waste by 40% or more and improve efficiency. Some opportunities are very common across the sector and yield significant savings, while others are more obscure.
